I had Netflix running through chrome while also had YouTube playing Warhammer videos and listening to Spotify while also browsing the web. Finished that and went back to playing mass effect legendary without skipping a beat. It has me super impressed, I can't even look at my switch anymore because I know it's hurt. It now knows what my vita felt like when I brought it home. Haha

The Steam Deck is the handheld ive been dreaming of ever since I first got my hands on the original PSP. I'm so satisfied with it!

just ordered one based on this video. thanks for clarifying the difference in models, I wasn't too keen on paying 650 but knowing I wouldn't lose much by getting the 399 model made all the difference in the world.

I recently replaced my i7 7700HQ 1050Ti laptop with steam deck and its going well. With windows 11, it can do almost anything my previous laptop can. Can run premier pro smoothly and edit 4k videos too and after i finish working, i can just take it off the dock and start gaming on my couch.

With a Dock this is perfectly possible. I have been using pop!OS on a NUC PC for quite some time and this makes the move to the 'desktop mode' on the SteamDeck virtually effortless. I quite like how the desktop mode functions. It's a solid grown up Linux GUI for sure.

:) THANKS MUCH for sharing, I am in my 70's and not a gamer, BUT after seeing my daughter's, I ordered one for a Linux Desktop to be portable, and a Dock I already use on my laptop, I can travel with it + an HDMI Cable to plug into Hotel TV or my portable monitor... Yep, I am an old Linux Geek :) ALL the BEST and can;t wait for my Deck to arrice! Cheers! :)

If I had a Steam deck, once the compatibility reached over 90%, I'd just use it to emulate Nintendo Switch and PSVITA games.

As a longterm Linux user (and I mean really longterm as in early 2000's), I'm happy to see more and more people losing fear and disrespect for desktop Linux because of the SteamDeck.
Would I use it as my own desktop/ThinkPad replacement however? Probably not, I love my X240 too much to do that plus I'm too cheap right now to buy a Dock that supports everything I need.
The AyaNeo came with its Dock and it's really cool.

The steam deck has become my preferred PC, though there are a few kinks that tend to get in the way in the desktop environment when it comes to installing programs and running mods

this would make everyone feel like you need to buy a lot of stuff for the steamdeck which is true but not really. Steam deck is essentially a PC so buying a monitor KB&M and docks are going to be like normal stuff you buy for a PC. If you want to be able to use it as a PC mostly but also take it to idk college or a trip. then its a great device for smaller work and playing games on the go as well as using it extensively when docked at home. now if your purpose is to get a laptop then maybe not but if you want something cheap powerful and compact. Then this is it

I often find myself using my main PC less and less after I got my steam deck, I just love the docking functionality of it, I don't have an actual jsaux dock, but I do have a Jsaux stand with a 3rd party hub, it's been working out pretty good for me, not sure how well little Fare once I hook it up to a 4K TV though

I'm buying a Steam Deck just so I can play Steam games anywhere around the house. Already have my spot reserved and I'm very excited to be able to give Valve my money. That, and I'm also very interested in supporting Valve's endeavours with Linux, as a dedicated Linux user myself.

Just looking to replace my near 10yr old Mac, really only used for YouTube and listening to music so the games are basically a bonus as I already have the big 3 consoles. Already have a monitor, mouse and keyboard that I bought like a year ago with the intent of getting a gaming pc but never followed through.. so this is seemingly the right choice for me!

I've been using a portable Bluetooth keyboard /track pad combo called the Rii i4 which has worked out great as a steam deck companion. Its compact and the track pad is very responsive and It has a scroll wheel as well helps when navigation through desktop mode and I've also been using it alot in games like bear and breakfast.

I have a OneXPlayer 1S with the Ryzen 5700U. I may have to test SteamOS on it to see if it works better for the way I use the device... I would want to make sure I can get GOG and Epic on there as well, though...

This is nuts. I’ve been wanting to get into gaming. I’m not a gamer, but I’m interested in starting and have a lot of friends and family that game and I need a new computer. I don’t have a lot of money and I’m pretty cheap. My needs are pretty minimalist. I can’t believe I’m considering just getting a steam deck with extra stuff instead of buying a brand new laptop.

I’m buying a steam deck to essentially get all the benefits of pc gaming like slight modding and playing games like L4D2 and CS:Go. Would this be a good device to do so with??

For the value perspective it's a monster. It have more performance that most 400 pre-built, giving a free screen, battery and controller. (just a bad ssd) Can be used as a portable gaming device, as a regular PC and as a console in the TV. Streaming is crazy cause it can stream from your pc to the Deck, so can bring games to your hands or the TV in the sofa. Can be used to purchase any Cloud gaming service.
It's not one of the best computers you can buy for that price, the form factor could play a big role to keep with you way more time than a 1000 pre-built computer. Just to stay behind the TV as online DVD or second monitor in your pc. I think it's gona age really well.

Considering buying one to “replace” my laptop for traveling.

Now the main reason I want it for is lazy gaming in my couch (when I don’t have time to turn on the PlayStation/Xbox) but been also thinking may as well use it as a travel pc too as I reached the point where I prefer to travel lightweight (if I go on vacations I’ll be most of the time outside, but still I use a pc at night when everything is closed and I’m still awake, probably up to 3 hours so I feel taking a laptop each time I go on a travel is already overkill considering how bulky it is, and still as a computer scientist and indie gamedev I really can’t go out without one)
