This One Switch Turns A Bad Quest Into A Much Easier Bad Quest (Requires YUP Patch)

Yall cant just put this grey circuit breaker in a bunker that is entirely grey and expect me to find it, Obsidian plz
If this switch doesn't work the unofficial patch will fix it for you :)

I've put in over 500 hours into the game, and only like 3 weeks ago, after downloading hidden valley overhaul mod and going down into the bunker to check it out, I noticed it for the first time as well.
Edit: The way that I've been doing this quest ever since I learned from others who were also frustrated is that right after he tell you that the virus jumped, you just quick save, find a terminal that has the virus, reload your save, go to that terminal and save again right after.

The one that really broke me was I had to wipe out the Brotherhood for Caeser, went to the very bottom and hit the self destruct and fought my way out. As I got back to the first room and the paladins office, I noticed his security terminal had the option to activate all the gun turrets with the Brotherhood as the targets, I was very upset

I've been playing this game since release, I even got all the achievements back in the day, and I just found out about this damn circuit breaker box...

I interpret this quest as a meta commentary on save scumming. The fact that it's based on "computers" adds to the idea

There is a science skill check in your dialog with "chucklefuck" that makes the quest easier, but nowhere nearly as easy as that switch. Fuck I wish I found it long ago.

I never had that much of a problem with this quest and actually the "hackerman" feel of running around operating the terminals to partition the virus. But I never knew about this, this makes it so easy.

So this is actually why I think this quest is decent. That breaker requires Repair 60 to repair and use in the manner shown in the video. You can also pass a Science 70 speech check with Ibsen to make it so when you find a virus segment in a terminal you can trap it and it stays there when the other segments jump. The former lets you get it done in one go, and the latter combined with efficient routing and the fact that time doesn't pass while you're in a terminal means you can usually get it in 2 attempts. The quest revolves around a technical problem that a BOS scribe couldn't fix, so there is a brute force method that sucks, and there are two character skill-related paths that make it trivial. At its core this is the kind of quest design Obsidian implemented so effectively throughout the game to make it great. Is fixing some virus in one room in a bunker exciting? No, of course not. But it's not poorly designed either.

This video makes me ask myself, "What the hell have I been doing with my life??"
Well I'll tell you what I did to beat that quest. I used the Turbo drug to slow time down as I ran around one computer after another. Doing one save before the task.

It also goes to show how inept the Brotherhood is that they didn’t think to throw that switch to help them hunt down the virus. I turn that bunker into a crater every playthrough. The Brotherhood of Steel is beneath contempt.

This doesn't work...on Xbox you need to be I. Third person and at a weird angle with a repair skill of 60 to interact with the switch and when you flip it it doesn't force the virus to the only three computers left operational it still goes to the ones around the room but now you can't access them...total waist of time

Oh geez. Way easier! Unbelievable how many times I had to start over and then I figured out, with higher science, I could isolate the virus through multiple tries(the virus stayed isolated on the computers even after the timer ran out)
