This process is an Impeachment INQUIRY (official investigation) not an Impeachment HEARING (an opportunity to state one's case). The Republicans, who are lawyers, know the difference between the two steps. When a person is suspected or accused of a crime, an INVESTIGATION is conducted, where interviewing witnesses, gathering statements and collecting evidence are done. When a person is charged of a crime, a hearing is conducted, where oral arguments such as the admissibility of evidence are done. If both the Democrats and the Republicans are currently participating in the INQUIRY process, why is being viewed as "secret impeachment HEARINGs"? Unfortunately, the words INQUIRY and HEARING being used interchangeably by the press and news, is misleading.
