One of the reasons why I have followed you from close to the start is while you do talk about gear and the technical side of things you also talk about the art, how you see the world through your lens. There are sides to photography that all the technical experience in the world won’t make a great photo

You explain mood, empathy, feeling. As far as I’m aware you and only a few others do that, most youtubers are gear heads, which in itself is ok but for us watching, you and those few others help all of us become better at our art

I like that you go back to the photography beneath gears!!! And please keep on staying with Nikon :-)

Matt, this video is wonderful, but first of all I want to thank you for autographing my yellow cover photo book. I just love it.

I bought my Z 50 1.8 after watching your video. But that video opened my eyes to new types of photography. You made an image of something red and urban and the image just spoke to me. I’m an enthusiast and have primarily made photos of my two young girls. But now, now I look for color. Now I look for contrast. Now I know that night images can be beautiful. I have always loved a “dirty frame”, but didn’t know what it was called.

Unfortunately, we’ve been in various states of lockdown the last year and due to some family stuff, I just can’t get out until my girls are asleep. But now I know that I can enjoy walking around a night and looking for details. Red bench. Neon light. Reflection in the glass. Person walking out of shadows. And my z 50 1.8 readers it all beautifully.

This video is what I’ve been hoping for. I find the odd nice frame, but struggle to identify the right thing. And when I do, how do optimize it? The carton with the leaves is a nice detail, but would I have noticed that and contrasted it with the cityscape? I don’t know, but this video has given me context...not just the image, but what you were looking it. I hope you know how much this type of thing can help someone who is still learning to “see” images.

Keep up the great content. I watch it all, even if only comment every few months or so :)

I loved seeing how you and your mind work on a shoot. As a landscape shooter, this photography is alien to me, normally I find myself on a beach or on top of a hill, on my own at dawn, it's where I am most comfortable but we must once in a while burst out of our comfort zone.

Love these hands on videos you do Matt. As always your photography is outstanding. Love Pelegrini's and Florentino's (30th. wedding anniversary there) up that end of town.

Melbourne is such a beautiful city. I hope to visit one day. NYC is a great p lace for street photography, but now I'm in a rural area and I miss the city.
Matt, your videos are so creative and fun, with outstanding editing. Thank you for such great content. I'm surprised your channel has not grown larger than it already is.

I may be the odd person out but talking about images is a lot more interesting than hardware. Hardware is easy, finding interesting perspectives out to be child's play but it isn't. I am asked to go out with beginners or people with new cameras who want to learn how to use it on a photo walk but it always is better going out alone with 1-2 lenses and a small sling bag(some people carry a wallet or purse, I carry a sling bag with 2 lenses, a flash, a wireless controller and Z6) instead of the large backpack when a gripped D8x0 was the walking around camera.
Most of my shooting involves people so shooting for myself is just heading off in any direction on foot when I have spare time. My adopted city is a little larger than Melbourne but seems smaller because it has a lot lower population density due to the city center being preserved 1700 and 1800 original ornate architecture which has limited height based in constructions techniques of the 18th century. It was designed as an ensemble capital city on both sides of the main river starting in 1703. Most people, tourists take shots of the grand palaces and cathedral but I seek out the unusual perspective or events happened upon. The city is highly engaged in the arts probably more than any other city in the world. We have a lot of water, bridges and parks....44 islands 600 bridges and 600 parks

It's so good to see you at work. As I'm still new to street photography, I think I can learn a lot watching you. And I really like the night time pics.
