Chuckwalla, the lizard you actually want when you think you want a green iguana.

My biggest issue with chuckwallas is their uncanny ability to manipulate boulders.

I love how the Chuckwalla became a meme in this community 😂🥰

"a big pudgy, salad eating sandpaper potato" might just be the best disciption you ever gave. Perfect! 🤣❤️

Okay the handling alone is a selling point. Not even two minutes in and that little guy is just crashing out on Clint's hand like a contented cat.

"It feels like a dry tiger's tongue"
While I can't say I've touched any tiger tongues (dry or moist), I still got a complete sense of what a chuckwalla feels like

"It feels like a dry tiger's tongue." Ah, yes, something we can all relate to.

I can't believe Clint would put the whole reptile room in danger with a Chuckwalla sitting there, learning their habits, and planning some form of psychopathy! D: BUBBA CHUNK, YOU MUST SAVE CLINT!

I don’t know why it is such an underrated species. I think that it packages an iguana and a uromastix together. The only severe downside is the extreme heat that it requires.

I like how he repeatedly compares it to a dry tiger tongue, as though this is a common thing that most people have stroked.

I work at a copper mine in Arizona. I've caught several chuckwallas there. Even the wild ones are super chill. It is such a joy to observe them in the wild.

Man, Clint is really getting brave. First he handled that cobra. Now he's handling the deadly Chuckwalla without any protective equipment. He likes to live dangerously. 🤣

This lizard is perfectly friend shaped so I am surprised they aren't more prominent as pets (at least in North America). Maybe this video will inspire more folks to breed them because they certainly seem like a better option for folks looking for a herbivorous lizard over ya now... iguanas lol.

I have a chuckwalla, and I wouldn’t trade him for the world. Just a lovely creature who wants to be around people, always curious about what we’re doing and the world around him.

Ah yes, now I understand completely! Thank you Clint for using such relatable and understandable comparison!

I can't believe you didn't mention my favorite characteristic of the chuckwalla - their curiosity. Many years ago friends and I were camping in a canyon out past Indio. I saw a head pop up over a boulder along the canyon about 20 yards down. It ducked back down and I paid little attention till I saw it pop up again, this time only about 10 yards down the canyon. Again it disappeared after a few moments. A few minutes later the little monster is coming up behind us under the cars. It got within about 3 yards, watched us for about 5 minutes then vanished into a tailings pile of bowling ball size rocks. For a while San Francisco zoo had a tank with chuckwallas and other similar sized lizards near the Mandrill enclosure. The lizards were great to watch because they were always chasing each other around, and in particular the chuckwallas would watch the watchers, often approaching the glass to get a better look. I've kept many reptiles in my time and never seen any other herp show much tendency to seek interaction with a human when food was not involved.
