How to Fail a Back Squat 101 #workout #backsquats #gym #gymworkout #fail

Last week I had a back flare up. This week I had a neck flare up.

I’ve been experimenting with some mobility work, form tweaks and some dietary changes. Specifically, I’ve been working on left proximal psoas strengthening, keeping my elbows tucked in the squat and eating in a caloric deficit.

I feel more mobile. My descent feels more even. I have slightly less energy. And this combination plus a little fear likely explains this failed rep.

Regardless, I’m happy I tried. And I’m happy to post it here as a little exposure therapy for my perfectionism.

If you aren’t failing a few reps here and there, you likely aren’t trying hard enough.

With that said, here’s how I finished the session…

At this point I had two options… either try again or move on.

Given the fatigue factor and the fact that I’m coming off a tweak, I decided to proceed on with the session.

I crushed leg press, added load and volume. This gave me a great stimulus without the axial fatigue. Then I crushed leg extensions and called it a day.

I’m feeling good and am looking forward to next week’s session. More exposures = more failures and more successes. Enjoy both and don’t forget to train!
