The absolute that Bring’em Young spewed on a regular basis, in and of itself, is enough to show how ridiculous it is to call the Church’s leaders “prophets.”

15 year old wives? Must be why they call him “Bring em young”

In 7th Grade, in public school, when doing presentations on the Utah Governors, I drew Brigham Young. After learning about him and his teachings, my presentation was basically about how shitty of a person he was. The next Sunday, after church, my Bishop called me into his office to have a conversation with me about how we don't talk poorly about our prophets, dead or living. I told him I thought it was weird that I'm getting in trouble for saying the truth. He said I was too young to understand the full truth and B.Y. was a good and righteous man. Years later, after I was excommunicated, his daughter told me how sad he was that I was out of the Church, but he had seen it coming ever since I talked crap on B.Y. I laughed so hard she walked away from me.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Brigham Young was a monster. I encourage everyone to read up on his life and dealings.

Brigham is a real problem for the church, because of all the crap he taught and claimed as scripture, but they need him for prophetic succession, plus he saved the church from extinction. Solution? Just pretend he never said or taught all the garbage and hope the sheep never check it out. He is probably one of the greatest examples of the old saying that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

He’s also responsible for the genocide of thousands of Native Americans in Utah and Idaho. He also served as Governor and the Superintendent of Indian Affairs in Utah. Each skirmish with the natives he could report it to the federal government and the state, lol Brigham, would be compensated. That’s why in the Meadow Mountain massacre the men dressed up like Indians. Brigham not the State collected over 30 million from the feds. He died one of the richest men west of the Mississippi. While so many members struggled to survive.

if Brigham Young was interested in a young man’s girlfriend as a new wife, he would tell the young man to step aside because the “Lord” said so. If the boy did not “yield” to the will of the lord, then the Danites would come and exile, castrate, or make the young man disappear. See “life in Utah under Mormon Brigham Young” heart of the matter.

I wanted to come up with a witty comment... but I can't. I really have no words. I just feel shame that this religion was such a big part of my life for so long and I was so blind that I didn't even see how messed up it all is... I just can't...

Whenever missionaries or other members cross paths we talk cordially and respectfully to each other, but when they press me in a passive aggressive manner I bring up Brigham Young. That's when they reply " we don't teach that or we don't believe in that " or " it was appropriate for the time " Yet it's all out in the open in the journal discourses and church history.
The church need to drop his name from the university. I won't hold me breath.

The same problem I have with anyone who says they speak for God.

Don't forget his brothel on Regent Street called "Commerce Street". He needed lots of comfort when his latest divorce occurred.

Let’s not forget Brigham was communicating with a group of people living on the sun, but surely they only lived there at night

My last name is Young. My family came from Brigham Young Jr. My grandma grew up in Mexico because our family moved there to continue polygamy. One of the biggest reasons I started my journey into apostasy is because my 6th great grandpa was a royal piece of shit. Sorry guys.

When I first heard about mormons practicing polygamy in 7th grade (in my Utah history class) I was ashamed and was shocked. Ever since I’ve felt something very off-putting about the church. I’m now in 10th grade and 3 years later I’ve found that there is so, SO much more shocking, sickening, awful stuff about this horrible church. I can’t wait till I’m 18 so I can official take my name off of the record and be free 😔

Brigham Young was a villian. I thought that even when I was a member of the church.

8:00 - *To the LDS apologists that claim that "everyone was racist like Brigham Young **_back then."_* I would like to point out, NOT TRUE! There was a Civil War fought that claimed the lives of 618, 000 men (this obviously does not include collateral damage, a.k.a. civilians). The war was fought from 1861 to 1865 *WHILE* Brigham Young was President of the LDS church... so yeah - it may sound nice to say "yeah but everyone was racist." *NOT TRUE.* I agree there is a degree of nuance surrounding the causes and reasons for the Civil War - but it can not be denied that the Abolition of Slavery from the United States was a pillar, and there were men that did join the Union Army solely to fight for the abolition of slavery.

By this time Britain had forsaken the slave trade and did not condone it at all - google "Destruction of Lomboko" an infamous fortress in Sierra Leone, Africa. It was razed to the ground by the British Royal Navy, *after* they freed the slaves being held there.

So yeah - once again LDS apologists - you need to use some historical perspective when you say things like that. Bloody Kansas and the uprising of John Brown was _directly tied to slavery_ and occurred between 1854 and 1861.

You also might have heard of one *Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln* they did not approve of slavery - Mary Todd Lincoln because she had grown up around slavery and seen its effects on human beings with her own eyes.

*LDS apologists - check your timeline and facts*. NOT EVERYONE WAS A RACIST when Brigham Young was the President of the LDS 1847-1877. One final note - the U.S. Abolitionist Movement to eradicate the enslavement of one human to another began in 1780 with the passage of "An Act for the Gradual Abolition of Slavery" in Pennsylvania. You might want to note.... the United States wasn't the United States yet... that didn't happen until 1787.

What makes that first polygamy quote by Brigham Young so interesting is that despite him preaching it, only 20% of the members practiced polygamy. Clearly many knew the practice neither came from Joseph or God.

Wow! 7 years after waking up and there’s still new material! I hadn’t heard most of these examples. Thanks for doing the research.

Also, him offering the wives “freedom” was an empty promise, seeing as women weren’t allowed to survive without men. No property, no job, nothing.

I’m so glad BYU rejected my application because I didn’t attend seminary because I was going through chemo during high school. Went to a state school and got a full ride scholarship instead.
