Quick review of Bergara B14 HMR chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. This rifle is a tack driver for around 1 grand, however for a hunting rifle it is a bit heavy.

I have two, 7mm Rem mag and 300 Win mag, best factory accuracy of any hunting rifles I’ve owned in the last 30 years. The accuracy rivals both My Sako and two Tikka T3x rifles to give a comparison. Your experience may differ, but I will take a Bergara over just about any other factory rifle😎👍🙏

She is heavy thats for sure. But in 300 win mag I welcome that weight whole heartedly.

I have the Bergara B14 HMR chambered in 308, and I consistently get half MOA groups at 100 yards shooting prone with the cheapest ammo I can find: Federal Powershock 150gr JSP. When I reach it out to 300 yards, I’m still getting groups of half MOA when it comes to drop, but windage varies from slightly under 1 MOA to slightly over 1 MOA probably due to the low aerodynamics of those types of bullets. I’m honestly extremely impressed with this rifle, and I’m sure I could shoot way better groups with better ammo.

Anyone who thinks they’re going to take a 9+ pound rifle, add accessories and spot and stalk at high altitude has real life education coming their way.

It’s about time someone put up a quick and to the point review with great points on either side and didn’t talk a lot of bullshit, love the review, please make more!

I agree with you on the rifle being heavy. I have one in 7mm Remington Magnum and it’s pushing 14 pounds. I found using a two shoulder style sling makes carrying it in the field easier. Heavy and extremely accurate.

"14.5 lbs..."
As a infantry vet. This gave me a chuckle. But jokes aside. Thanks for sharing. I was looking to pick up one myself. 🤣👍

Since the action has a Remington 700 footprint you could always upgrade the stock to a lighter material such as carbon. I've heard that done and it take a lot of weight off for not that much cost.

i dont really think its fair to say in a review that the rifle is heavy as a negative when it is the weight the rifle lists on its spec sheet. you could have gotten the ridge or a tikka lite.

Bought this rifle. Sighted it in and was shooting 2.5MOA at 100yds. I’m hoping it was the ammo or my fundamentals were jacked because I’m very upset with that. Only fired a total of 6rounds but will take it back to the range and see what’s what.

I grew up walking miles on farmlands hunting groundhogs with my dad’s rem700 varmint master (heavy bull barrel) 6-18 Burris scope. The one inch sling would literally cut my shoulders after carrying it all day. I eventually took one of my mother’s hand towels and wrapped the sling securing it with duck tape. I’m guessing the rifle was around 14lbs. I never complained again, maybe I conditioned myself being young and ignorant but even to this day I don’t mind carrying a heavy rifle. Not saying I’m any stronger or tougher than anyone else, but I do believe the experiences I faced as a young boy going into adulthood I had much more to worry about than carrying a rifle. Hunting was my get away to enjoying the outdoors. Much better than staying at home watching tv like everyone else my age.

I've got this same rifle, 6.5 cm with a Leupold and Ultradyne Apollo S and it's a dedicated coyote rifle but still fun to take to the range, but definitely not for long mountain hunts. I also live in Colorado. Glad you made this video because you're 100% right, when you see the weight you think that's not too bad, i can handle that... But reality is, it's not a mobile rifle, it should be stationary. A good long bipod and a place to hunt with a good area to watch over is the main way to hunt this rifle. Good review 👍🏼

Totally agree, fantastic, accurate rifle, but boy is it heavy.

The weight is one of the factors I used in choosing my 6.5CM HMR. Here in NY, our hikes aren't terrible and the altitude is rarely above 2000'. A double-shoulder sling balances the load nicely. You're spot-on about free-standing shots. I'd never try one with my HMR. Resting the barrel on my knee works beautifully if I'm not prone. I'm not a big guy at 5'4" / 155lbs. Probably one of the biggest factors going into my decision was the ability to put a follow-up shot on target quickly if necessary. I put a Ultradyne Apollo Max compensator on it and there's the same amount of recoil as my 5.56 rifles. Barrel stays flat, sight picture stays clear, and all's well with the world.

Glad you put out a video highlighting the weight when it's fully kitted out. It's not a rifle I'd recommend for long hikes at high altitudes, but in the right scenarios it'll put a lot of meat in the freezer!

Thanks for the review and work. I think you make good points about weight. Liked and subscribed.

They offer a carbon fiber barrel that’ll knock off some weight. I usually will remove the bipod and use a long lightweight shooting stick when walk hunting. Shooting stick doubles as walking stick too. I’m getting too old to walk hunt so I’ve practiced up on long range shooting so I can either ground hunt with a long bipod or stand hunt. Thanks for the video of the pros and cons. I agree with you on the rifle weight, my b14 is chambered in .300 win mag, so I appreciate the weight sometimes. Lol 😂

Is the Bergara B14 heavier than the Savage 110 tactical? Would you recommend the savage 110 tactical for hunting ?

I bought mine knowing it wasn't got to be light. mine is a .300 PRC and it is lights out. I am not a hunter I could careless about weight, I used to carry a M60 in the Marines weight to me is stability. I understand that hunters dont want excess weight. if thats the case you picked the right brand but the wrong model for hunting. My 11yr old grandson has the Ridge I gave him in .300 PRC. He has not issues but his is also a Hunter friendly model

I have one in 6.5 aswell and - its funny your gun likes Hornady where as mine doesn't. It likes Winchester Match 140g. Hornady gets me in and about 1 moa, Winchester gets me sub MOA. Sig Sauer Match 140g? Forget it...that was shooting nearly 3 MOA! BUT i think that was an anomoly because a diferent box shot close to 1.5 right after so...SIG maybe not consistent on ammo? I need a chronograph to see what happened there. Weight? Yea...I bought it for the opposite - not hunting. I bought it to get into PRS and LR shooting on a budget and I thought the first 6 months using it "How on earth to hunters use this gun? ITs heavy!!"
