The barrel stiffness is more a function of geometry than total material mass. They maintain a larger diameter for the same mass, so there’s a definite stiffness boost.

Just purchased a Beraga B14 Crest in 6.5 CM and it is in transit. Should have my hands on the rifle very soon. Thanks for the reviews and looking forward to your hands on full review of the Crest.

I actually tagged you in the Bergera post about the Crest model and how much you would love it, especially when they eventually chamber it in 7 PRC a day or two ago.
Some folks actually like a heavier weight model especially when it comes to magnum cartridges so they have the power but a more stable platform for those shots past 300 - 400 yards that can present themselves in the backcountry. Then cut weight elsewhere. To each their own on their preferred style.
A Savage 110 Ultralight is a carbon fiber barreled rifle in the same price point as the Ridge Carbon but with a more plastic feeling stock. But weighs a pound less than the Ridge.
I can’t wait to see what you share with us from Shot Show. I wish that I could be there instead of working at a boring retail store like Menards

I own and love several Bergara rifles. All of them are shooters and I've never had any issues with the rifles themselves. My only complaint has been the weight. Packing a Bergara up and down the mountains with a suppressor has been less than ideal. I'm glad they've been listening to their customers about shaving weight!!!

The fluting is a way to add some stiffness of a heavier barrel without all the weight of a heavier barrel. Fluting really doesn’t do much for cooling down a barrel (it adds a little surface area which helps but not significantly). It’s the same principle behind why civil engineers use I-beams instead of a fully filled rectangular beam.

Very nice offering I plan to test the B14 HMR Wilderness on my channel in 300 PRC I am so excited to finally get my hands on one. Now I want one from the new line up

The Springfield Waypoint 2020 is in the Crest price range if you get the steel barrel. I recently bought one partially because of the review on the channel. It has been an absolute killer in 6MM Creedmoor for Coyotes and is very very accurate even with factory loads I've been using. This Crest looks to be similar and similarly priced.

The hmr pro has been a great rig. Would be great to see their carbon wrapped barrels become available.

I got a Bergara rifle B14 Hunter in 06 spring 2023 after a very disappointing ejection issue with a Sako 85 in the same caliber. I was told of the stellar accuracy of these guns by a several gun shops where I live in western Canada. Loved the feel, weight and balance of the gun as well as the silky smooth action. However it never lived up to its reputation. Over the course of 3 months or so of trying 12 different factory ammunition in weights of 165, 180 and 190 bullets from Winchester, Hornady, Federal soft point, Federal Premium I could only get one 3 shot group of Hornady 180gr Whitetail to group 1”. The rest ranged from 1.75”-3+” groups. In all the shooting I did with it I would fire one shot set the gun in the shade, walk to the 100 yards and mark the shot walk back, wait a few mins and shoot again. This was done or all 12 brands in 3 shot groups. As I always test from a cold barrel on groups. However not only were the groups disappointing but the action would not cycle any of the ammo. I would put a round in the mag then the second but it tended to pop up. When I did get 4 rounds in and started to cycle the action, ever time it jammed. The first round sometimes go in but the second would always pop up and jam. I filmed all the target shots and I filmed all the attempts I made in loading and cycling the action. I also had 2 new scopes that I put on it just to be sure.
I emailed Bergara with the gun serial number but never got an answer back. Luckily the gun shop I bought the rifle from were very honourable and took the gun back and I was able to exchange it for a known reliable gun maker with no cost to me.
So I hope that is not the norm with Bergara

As a gun seller for a major chain this info was invaluable. Thank you

Fluting adds rigidity as well as surface area for cooling while minimizing weight.

The Savage 110 Ultralite comes with a carbon fiber wrapped barrel and goes on sale for around $950. Just an FYI since you were mentioning Bergara undercutting other manufacturers prices.

Just a quick response to your comment on fluting on the barrel. Going to a thicker contour barrel and then fluting it can give you a barrel of the same weight but increase it's rigidity and cooling properties. If you are not looking to increase weight but wanted to stiffen the barrel and increase cooling, this is how you do it.

Engineering note on fluted barrels, your increasing moment of inertia of the barrel section resulting in a stiffer barrel per weight of barrel

Hi Jim, big fan of the Chanel! Can you make a video talking about reloading? I’m considering starting. Pros/cons to buying factory vs. reloading, Do’s and Don’ts, and any tips you would give to someone just starting out.
Happy new year and keep up the great work!

Still like the savage 110 ultralight. Great for back country hunting. Knock is on the stock, how do you beat the barrel, trigger, adjustable stock options, weight, accuracy, and chamber options for the price point. Cerakote the stock if you don't like the looks.

I have a B-14 HMR 6.5 creedmoor with an EOtech Vudu 3.5-18. Thing does weigh a lot but it’s super accurate!
