The 2.5 and 5 Gigabit specs were made to accommodate the mass deployment of cat5e. So it doesn't mean that people should have to replace current cables if they have higher than 150Mbps. You can have Muti-Gig in runs less than 150 meters and 10Gig with Cat6 if the run is less than 55 meters. Anything higher than 5 Gbps you are better off running fiber to avoid speed loss at any distance and DACs for in rack connectivity.

Great video Mike! Yep, this is another thing I need to get to someday. I'm primarily using WiFi throughout the house, with the exception of a NAS and a few other machines located near my switch. I appreciate the recommendations very much!

Hey Mike Loving the Content. I’ve got a modem, router, and switch at my business and I’m mostly running POS Terminals for everything coming out of that switch. My question is can I run a Cate 6 cable from an existing wall jack I’m not using to a spot where I’d like to add another wall jack to add a POS station. Basically a RJ45 connector into the existing wall plate, run cat 6 to the new location I want to add on that run and wire into another wall jack where I can just have a patch cable from the POS back into the new wall jack I added??? Would love to hear your thoughts on if it’ll work or not.

Cat6 is all you need. Its cert 10G up to 150'.

5E can hit 10gbps.. just depends on the cat5E cable itself.. ITs not innately limited to 1gbps.. 1gbps is the min spec.

maybe you need cat 7 or cat 8 or fiber cable to prevent overload in enterprise home network if you have more than 100 employees

I have cat 8 in my walls as I feel I want to future proof my wiring.

The Cat5e cable itself isnt 1Gbps, its capable of carrying up to(!) 1Gbps and a good cat5e can do 10Gbps in short distance but for futureproofing run Cat6a which is rated for 10GHbps.

Basic: Why would you recommend Cat5e for up to 150-300Mbps when c5e can handle 1Gbps, your statement doesnt make any kind of sense! What if I have 100Mbps?? Cat4?
Interm: I have 100Mbps, run Plex and other services and use Cat5e/6, am I intermediate beacuse I have Plex Server? If both cables are rated for 1Gbps ??

Umm, it's all cheap as hell right now so why not just go with CAT8? I was able to get over 250ft of CAT8 to wire my house lastcsummer for under $100.

I use CAT 8 the cable itself is bigger than chopstick and I only get 98 mbps; my service plan is 400 mbps.
