eConsults

The eConsult care model was introduced at D-H in 2015 through a grant from CMMI. Over the course of the past two years it has expanded to a widely used clinical tool. Now available in thirty specialties, eConsults provide a preferred alternative to the traditional curbside consult between a PCP and a specialist. An eConsult provides the Specialist with a clear clinical question from the PCP along with any necessary supporting data on a concise template within eD-H. This allows the Specialist to deliver the best possible recommendation to the Primary Care Provider in a timely manner. All of this translates to fewer Specialist appointments for low complexity issues, improved access to Specialists for those times when visits are necessary, keeping patient care with the PCP and, most importantly, better care for the patient.
