10:30 @Halima, The original 20 shillings was a blue note in the early 90's thats why, brown is the color for a thousand note. sometimes the old folk also call 20 shillings a "pound" because the exchange rate was 1pound=20 in the 80's

14:35:MATATU: From ITHATOH to MATATOH (kikuyu pronunciation) to MATATU(swahili/sheng/english pronunciation). Both MATATOH and ITHATOH are words from kikuyu language(kikuyu tribe). ITHATOH is the number 3 or can be used to count 3 three separate items.MATATOH is used to describe three separate items which start with an M. Take Bananas(english) or MARIGOH(kikuyu).EG Three Bananas is (MARIGOH MATATOH) in kikuyu. GENESIS:In colonial kenya, a kikuyu man decided to make money using his personal car by providing transport for africans from one area to another on a FIXED charge of 3 cents/helas(HELA ITHATOH) (in kikuyu) or " HELA TATU" (in swahili). He told Kikuyu africans he was charging only "HELA ITHATOE" or in short " MATATOH" .Soon kikuyus started calling his car "MATATOH" .Others copied him charging a fixed fare of 3 helas and now people in general called this taxis/cars MATATOH with non kikuyus calling them "MATATUS".The name stuck and later spread kenya even after independence on Dec 12 1963.
