Cyd Charisse was often asked who she liked better, Kelly or Astaire but she would never answer directly. She had too much class for that. But I had the feeling she preferred dancing with Kelly. She stated once that when he caught you, You were caught - making a refference to his strength and agility. But the Central Park scene from Dancing in the Dark with Astaire and Cyd has always been my favourite.

I always thought Donald O'Conner was underrated and under appreciated. He was one hell of a dancer, actor and singer.

Thanks for the video with just the dancing and no annoying commentary.

Gene Kelly was the undisputed master of Old Hollywood dance. Period.

He always felt more "working man" vibe, athletic and smiling in slacks and a sweater, showing off the moves and built like a football player, where most others like Astaire were sort of serious and elegant with the tux and evening gowns dancing in ballrooms while Gene danced literally anywhere, even with a mouse! Not sure my explanation makes sense to anyone but me..hahaha

Just incredible! It seems like Donald O'Connor never received much acclaim. He was a fabulous dancer, too.

There's something about his dance that other very skilled dancers never had. He makes it seem easy and more than anything, fun. The way he smiles and makes it look effortless even though it's not... That's Gene Kelly.

People would say that he was difficult to work with because he was such a taskmaster. But the results show that he was passionate about his art.

The roller skating routine was unbelievable.

How hard would that Roller Skating tap dance have been, not only to learn, but on the leg muscles? They would have been heavier than normal shoes. Love the old Hollywood musicals - I could watch them over and over again. I was raised on these movies as my mother loved them. Never tire of the sheer talent that was back then. Thank you for the upload. Can we have some more, please??

I wish we had these types of shows again. I love variety and musical shows. I miss the innocence of that time. People back then had to have talent. No one could get by on anything else. And usually the actors could act, sing and dance. Sigh! I wish I could go back in time. I hate the shape the world is in.

He was so talented. Donald O'Connor was wonderful too, and everyone loved Fred Astaire, but Gene's dancing was so athletic. Loved his style the best.

Let’s not forget to mention how freaking adorable he was! His eyes smiled! Oh how I loved his dancing ... he was the “every man” dancer compared to Astaire and I preferred to watch Gene just for his sheer athleticism and that face!!!

O’Conner is just a riveting to watch in every way. He is every bit as magnificent as Kelly! Bravo!

Gene Kelly always made his dancing look spontaneous, just off the top of his head. Tremendous talent, the likes of which we'll never see again.
