Training is important but prep on the day negatively effects performance cuz u tire the muscles before u even start. I know guys who do like 5 reps of 80% in warm up and then expect to hit a record. I do the bar for a few reps & then hit singles moving up a plate each time till I'm within 80% of my max. Then I jump straight up to the max lift. I don't attempt a new 1rm unless I've already hit it according to a rep calculator based on amrap in training. My powerlifting total is currently 5.2x my body weight despite only having trained on and off for a couple years.

How do you test your 1 max rep for the 3 big lifts? Do you test it all (Squat, Bench & Deadlifts) in a single session or split sessions?

I've barely done singles in the past few months for bench, able to rep out 155 like it's NBD but failed 205 off the chest. Gonna start putting in low rep sets and singles to start getting used to the stimulus, and adding some singles on my squats

I maxed out on deadlift once after finding my five rep weight was lighter than I remember. Was like, “shit, wonder if this’ll work.” Walked home super sore, but super proud of myself.

But what if I want to stick to a normal 5x5 training schedule and just want too see how much I can 1RM? I thought this video was going to go more into the warmup phase of a testing day.
