An extended and informal exploration of the idea of metamodernism based on the essay by Greg Dember in The Side View magazine: What is Metamodernism and why does it matter?

This discussion takes care to clarify various terms and considers Greg's distinctive take that highlights the importance of reclaiming the value and dignity of our interiority from modernistic reductionism and postmodern irony.

Hearing you talk about some of this got me thinking. Where Modernists might be too utopian/idealistic, and Postmodernists might be too cynical/complacent, Metamodernists seem to be more grounded in realism. Here are a couple sentences that seem to me to be metamodern:
*Perfect utopias don't exist, but society should strive to be better.
*Scepticism is good, but pure scepticism leaves no grounds for debate.
Metamodernity seems to be marked by determination to strive towards a better society (though some definitions of "better" seem more valid than others), while being more realistic about the goals put forth and not becoming complacent along the way. (The alt right is an example of a difference in meaning of "better")

I believe that the 2017 "Wonder Woman" film is an example of metamodernism.

This conversation is how ideas start to become impotent.

Very interesting. Of course Trump is the ultimate post- modern president, he could'nt have existed at any other period. Post-modern thought left the left bank lecture halls of Paris sometime in the late 60's or early 70's and finally went as main stream as you can get.
