"What is Metamodern?" is an ongoing research project and web site authored by Greg Dember and Linda Ceriello. WiM Conversations is a series of videos in which we chat with other theorists, artists and culture-makers who involve themselves with metamodernism. In this short introduction we briefly explain our vision for the series.

Our home website:

Greg's 2018 article that explain's metamodernism's aesthetic characteristics:
"After Postmodernism: Eleven Metamodern Methods in the Arts"

Greg’s 2020 article that explains and differentiates other permutations of “metamodernism” and post-postmodernisms:
"What is Metamodernism and Why Does It Matter?"

Linda’s 2018 dissertation:
“Metamodern Mysticisms: Narrative Encounters with Contemporary Western Secular Spiritualities”

Timotheus Vermeulen and Robin van den Akker's 2010 article that kickstarted much of the current discourse on metamodernism:

The article you suggest reading on your website has been really helpful, and in general, I find your approach more sound and convincing than the "northern" one, which was my first encounter with Metamodernism a year ago. I arrive on your page listening to Greg's conversation with Brendan Graham Dempsey, where
I was expecting a "mapping of metamodernism", and instead it was more of a monologue... the patience showed by Greg and the clarity of what he was able to say, in spite of Brendan's erratic mind, convinced me to explore more.
Ps: To hear you two be transparent about how difficult is to start a video conversation about a topic that you know well is very encouraging... thanks
