Debunking common myths about climate change

Every day we are bombarded with reminders of climate change and how it is impacting the ecosystem, from record flooding to extreme heat. But there is also a lot of false information circulating. CBS News meteorologist and climate specialist Jeff Berardelli joins CBSN to talk about some of the most common myths about climate change and the science that debunks them.

The graph in the thumbnail is never mentioned or shown and is pretty significant to this discussion. You might want to find out why almost 99% of scientists agree on this point when almost a quarter of a selection of climate-related research papers have no stance stated. It's also a little much to say with certainty that 100% of the change in climate is man-made when there isn't a control mechanism to show that, which is why it's such a big question and why the doomsday dates have been so consistently wrong.

Two petty notes, you don't have to say you believe in science. Science is literally just the process of observing the world, making predictions, and then testing those predictions. Saying you believe in science shows you have no respect for it. Also Galileo was persecuted for going against the majority opinion of the time. For our time that majority opinion is global warming. You even labeled people who disagree with you as contrarians indicating you're aware of that majority. Not saying they're right, just that you are misinterpreting the story of Galileo to make yourself seem like a martyr while also announcing you're the modern status quo.

The Earth has been around for tens of millions of years ... and we have decent data for only about the last 75-100 years.
We all know the Earth has been very warm at times, and very cold at time... long before man had ANY impact on the Earth.
The truth is, we really don't know anything yet ... most of what this guy is saying, is just a guess.

The earth has been around for aprox 4.5 Billion years and we have experienced mass extinctions before, one that was more catastrophic than the death of the dinosaurs called "The Permian-Triasic Extinction Event" where even the insects died..look that one up...life is fragile... to think we can't have a similar fate is unrealisitic and doesn't follow the history or the trends in data.

Straight from the Democratic playbook

First, identify a problem most of us can agree on. Second, elevate the problem to a crisis. Third, propose an extreme solution to said crisis that inevitably results in a massive transfer of power to government authorities. Fourth, watch as conservatives take the bait and vociferously reject the extreme solutions proposed. Fifth and finally, accuse those same conservatives of being too heartless or too stupid to solve the original problem on which we all thought we agreed.

*Back in the 1950s, death causing heat waves, cold spells, storms, floods and droughts were constantly in the news, and Smokey the Bear had a full time job preventing forest fires.* My family purchased a 12" black and white television in 1957, and I remember Walter Cronkite narrating footage of all kinds of crazy weather events in the USA. Worldwide weather reporting was rare. Before television, we only saw pictures of storms on Life Magazine covers and in newsreels shown at movie theaters. No one blamed bad weather on automobiles, eating meat, or using incandescent light bulbs. Today, Americans smoke marijuana while watching giant screen television broadcasts of every major weather event around the world while news anchors, politicians, and Hollywood celebrities tell us this is the sign of the end of the world, and carbon dioxide, the gas that creates and fuels all life on Earth, is to blame.

If you look at long term graphs collating weather events, you see activity goes up and down like a roller coaster, and there is nothing unusual happening in 2020. There is no long term trend to disaster. The Church of Climate Change preaches terror because it is just another doomsday religion playing on people’s deep subconscious emotions and a need to believe in something. The doom never arrives as promised, but that never stops them from kicking the date of world destruction down the road like a tin can.

We face serious threats, but carbon dioxide and cattle flatulence can never destroy the world. Real threats include the Wuhan Coronavirus, nuclear war, super-volcano eruptions, asteroid impacts, solar flares, overpopulation, open border anarchy, topsoil erosion, etc. Life always exists on a razor’s edge, and we are always in danger. Let’s all try to stay calm, rational, and follow the discipline of the scientific method, not the demagogue’s method of preaching hysteria in order to gain power and money.
