It's been a rough few days here. We were hit dead on by a strong monsoon thunderstorm. Well over an inch of rain in about half an hour, huge winds and lots of lightning.

Welcome to Arizona from one who was born and raised here. Always amazing to me to see how many people get stuck in washes after they ignore the "Do not enter when flooded" signs right before the wash...

I'm a surface-water hydrologist by profession. That was very interesting. I'm a little surprised that there wasn't some grading away from the house. I would expect that the house would be slightly elevated from the surrounding grade to promote drainage away from and around the house.

I've seen a couple of debris flows and they are nothing to scoff at. That was some substantial flow down the road so I'm not surprised that boulders were moved.

A lot of folks don't think it rains in the desert. It doesn't very often, but when the storms come... they really come.

Glad you're alright.

Wow! Yeah, the power of water is incredible. Glad you and your friends didn't have more issues than you did!

Mother Nature telling you where not to build a road. This a good lesson in design. Glad the antennas lived through it. People that don’t live in the southwest usually don’t comprehend.

We had somewhat the same thing but ours lasted 4 days with a total of 21.5” rain. The entire town of Rockport, Texas had flooded roads. Our blessing was we took the rain load just fine at our location. Thankfully we had just gone grocery shopping a day before the storm hit us. We had a house get hit by lightning one block over from us. My “tower and antenna survived just fine.
Your damages, Kevin were greater as far as the land erosion. Many of our local homes and businesses did get about a foot or more of water inside. Thankfully you all were safe.

I was driving north about 5 miles north of Kingman on 93 when it hit my wife and I. We had to pull off the road and wait it out. Hell of a storm.

I am super GLAD you are O.K. along with your friends there in Kingman A.Z. Yes water is a good excavator when flowing swiftly!! Glad your RV only saw water up to the bottom of the rims!!!

As a home builder for 22 years, minimum of 18 inches above grade.

Wow, didn't realise the road would be so torn down like that so quickly! Hope you get through OK with the R.V.

Wow! Used to do a lot of work near Tonopah, but stayed in a hotel in Goodyear. One coworker elected to stay in the desert in his camper and we went out to pick him up. Down a road like that. In a rental Taurus. Made it.

Hi Kevin,
Never thought that much of the road would get washed away. Thanks to the good neighbor making a ramp to exit the property. Stay safe. 73 WJ3U

Oh dear. Good luck with the clean-up. One nice thing about where we live (NS CAN) is that it's more-or-less solid bedrock, so even the heaviest rain merely disturbs some gravel on the driveway and ruts the gravel road (just a bit, like an inch or two). 73

Great video. KL3TQ here in Kingman. We are up Stockton Hill Road about 14 miles. It was a fun one, I took a few pictures before it hit us.

Glad to see you are okay. Got worried when there were no video's for a while. Saw that kind of storm during Hurricane Harvey Had at least 6 hours of rain like you saw, and we had 52" of rain in 3 days. Yeah, many homes were full of water. Hope you can get the road fixed well enough to get out and get some groceries soon.

Lesson learned... When building a house in flat land make sure is at least 2 foot above typical grade.
