I'm a black American whose parents have owned a home in Dorado Puerto Rico for over 25 years. I visit Puerto Rico as much I can. I was just there 2 weeks ago. Puerto Rico is a diverse and lovely island! The people are welcoming, loving and super genuine. I've NEVER HAD A BAD TIME there. These comments are uncalled for and low class!

Puerto Ricans didn’t deserve that insult. They are people with the biggest hearts.❤

Vance said he didn’t see it. He didn’t watch the video but you heard it and I know you heard it very clear. I’m Puerto Rican and a republican and I’m changing my vote. My island has fought side by side with United States in every war we’ve earned to be citizens of the United States. We died for your American flag for you to call us trash. It’s unacceptable.

I just wish the republican party would take their comments seriously especially at this critical point! Why did they let that moron talk? He literally destroyed the campaigne

Vance is sooo detached from reality… I’m sure the Puerto Ricans are going to feel that it wasn’t a big deal

JD Vance's remarks made it worse.

JD Vance doubled down by dismissing the outrage caused and saying it was no big deal.

Tony Hinchcliffe, the comedian who made the disparaging remarks against Puerto Ricans, had his script vetted by the Trump campaign as Trump's campaign staff apparently asked Hinchcliffe to remove an even more vulgar portion of the script. The campaign staff's attempt to distance itself from the comments is certainly a weak damage control attempt. A candidate's campaign staff is a direct reflection on the character of the candidate.

Vance is so over it because he really doesn't care. Vance will do and say anything that keeps himself in Trump's favor. Senator yes man...

It’s not about being offended or having something overblown. Your job as a politician is to bring people together and speak on positive anecdotes that’ll benefit the country not JOKE on irrelevant or unnecessary topics

The joke was based on this topic - "Trash crisis leaves Puerto Rico near 'the brink" by Coraly Cruz Mejias (Global Press Journal)

This is all over the news and he hasn't seen it? And he is running to be the second in command of the US? Useless!!!! Can't even order donuts right.

You know what else is offensive and derogatory? Giving storm victims in Florida only $750 dollars.

Isn't funny that Vance didn't have 1 minute or even less to watch the joke on his phone before he goes on national TV to make a clarification about something he hasn't seen or heard fully? ---get out of here. That's basic 101 -NEXT!

Wow 😂😂😂😂 idiots, if it doesn't reflect trump, then why was he up on stage and the fact that his vice president doesn't care about it, if it's racist or not just shows you that he doesn't care about puerto ricans
