Thank you for making the video. I have used a 25-06 for deer for many years and it has a place in my hunting heart. Im a fan. I have a ruger american predator and a savage 110 chambered in 25-06. I’ve taken many deer with the savage but have always been a little disappointed with the accuracy/repeatability. I have always chalked it up to the samplings I own…because I have known others to get INCREDIBLE accuracy out of this cartridge. I have other caliber rifles that shoot well under 1” and some at 1/2” so I know it’s the rifle and not me. As a hand-loader I have found the best accuracy with 100gr Barnes TTSX and 120gr Grand Slam bullets made by Speer. One thing I have learned over the years is that some rifles shoot well with a few loads and some shoot reasonably well with many loads. I had high hopes for the 110 ELD-X but it didn’t perform well in my rifles. My humble opinion is that most 25-06 rifles would benefit from a little more twist rate…( perhaps 1:8-9 rather than 1:10). The good news is a 2” group is just fine for “closer range” deer hunting. I enjoyed your video. I appreciate you taking the time to share your insight.

Yup 25/06 is a good 'un overlooked for more modern.

If she shoots 117/120 well is a solid long range choice.

I bought one of these in 7/08. It is unbelievably accurate! I re stocked it into a boyds laminate. Pillar and glass bedded. New Leupold bases and rings and a Leupold scope. It now shoots 139g Hornadys just over 1/2" for five shots. Crazy a 360$ gun outshoots custom rifles I have put thousands into..

Excellent old school round. Back in the day when considering my first high power rifle it was between the 25/06 & 7mm Rem Mag. I ended up trading some handguns for a nice used 700BDL in 7 mag. But I have always had a fondness for the 25/06. Very versatile. You can make those 75-87 grain bullets scream. Enjoy.

I free floated it and put a better scope base and rings on it with a Leupold scope

Something to keep in mind: I’ve worked on over a dozen Axis rifles and EVERY single one that had the old 6-48 threads for the receiver had one or more 6-48 screws that were NOT tight that wouldn’t be necessarily be obvious without removing the scope/rings and checking. The newer Axis w/8-40 screws have a red patch, but I would still clean the oil out of the the receiver threads and retighten. The new bases are steel, BUT have heavy burrs that need to be filed off with a hand file. The newest rifles also have heavier firing pin springs. These are great rifles, IMHO.

Those deathgrip tripods are awesome, I have one and use it for my cameras, made blocks from wood that the mounts bolt onto, had a clamp fail and they sent new parts to fix it.

I’ve used precision hunter 25-06 in my sako a7 and it’s well under 1 moa. Bin out to 1000 yards a few times with it now.

It is definitely worth your time to check and torque your action screws and sand out any stock / barrel contact points.

The trigger seemed to break at just over 4 pounds every time, but you kept pulling the first few times.
Your bog pod might have been squeezing the stock against the magazine well.

Good luck with the rifle. 25-06 was the first centerfire rifle I ever got, way back in 1975.

Would you recommend getting a Savage Axis? "Yes, but get a new stock... new trigger and new scope.. and maybe a better barrel"😂😂😂

I’ve shot more deer with my axis 3006 then I have with any other rifle 🤣 😂 dead nuts with a handload too. You really can’t beat them for a barreled action with the savage barrel versatility
