Pretty stout and reliable for what they are. I have a friend who has a 2009 Smart Fortwo that she bought brand new. That car has 270, 000 miles on it. I have witness this car not give my friend any issues at all. She does all the maintenance on time.

I had one in the UK. Depends what your expectations are I guess. Petrol is still comparatively cheap in the US, despite what you may think. Apparently the transmissions are better in the latest models, again it wasn't the quickest but what is it you want. I wouldn't of thought it would suit Americans very well, not with the distances you cover. Unless someone works and lives in the city, then maybe.

I had a snooty, obnoxious neighbor that drove a Smart Car; she thought it was so cool to pull head-first into the curb whilst everyone else parallel parked properly. She did stop doing it when a police officer wrote her a citation for it.

It serves a purpose I suppose, but I’m not giving up a 2020 Mustang for that, not just the lack of power but because the little yellow bug is just hideously ugly. There’s more to owning a vehicle to just transportation, at least for some. However I must admit at being very impressed with the resilience of the cabin cage, given its size.
