Reality Check: How divided is America, really?

If you listen to polls and pundits, you may assume that politics has polarized Americans. But correspondent David Pogue points out that, while we tend to have an exaggerated idea of what other people believe, statistics show Americans actually agree on a whole lot.

It's not that the majority of Americans, if asked wouldn't say that they do believe in freedom of religion. But I think it's in the details of that freedom that the disagreement, when it occurs, is divisive.

Great Piece ! It seems maybe to iron out these misconceptions we need to have more discussions either around the kitchen or dining room tables with our neighbors, friends, family and even a stranger or two

One of the best things I have ever done for my mental health is stop watching ANY kind of media from conservatives. They make it look like the world is going to end when a Democrat is in power, but that everything is heavenly when they are in office. Reality doesn't just change like that.

This is similar to how i feel about black bears where i live, everyone sounds so scared but noone has been killed by one since 1943 here.. im more worried about rabid stuff like coyotes or whatever, but everyone always says "arnt you worried about bears"? Maybe for my trash cans..

We are told that America is divided beyond repair and we must take a stand against each other.
But we are more un⁠i⁠⁠t⁠ed ⁠t⁠han you ⁠think.
88% of Americans believe that forces in politics and the media are trying to pit us against each other – and it needs to stop.
When we truly look at each other, it is clear that most of us care about the same things.
We care about our communities, families and building a nation that not only tolerates, but respects differences.
