So I think what he’s saying is that Russians (Soviets) wanted to make their soldiers awake during wars.
They asked 4 prisoners that if they them test on them they’d be free to go, they accepted the offer and the test started.
So when they gave them stuff like that, they had to stay awake for at least somewhere until 10-20 days.
In day 14 they all got sick needed surgery, all of the surgeries failed and they all died. (Btw China did this too)
