I love how Ritchie really pulled people's legs. He has killed so many reporters as they took him seriously... This one is a classic🤣

All of us ‘in the know’ know he came up with the riff by playing ‘Master of Puppets’ backwards with an added 5th and 13th all on a cheap Japanese guitar tuned half a step down with the ‘d’ string removed. Beethoven had sweet FA to do with it, but I’ll give him credit for introducing ‘tapping’.

I can believe he got the idea from Beethoven's 5th by messing about with those notes but the famous riff from smoke on the water is not Beethoven's 5th played backwards
