Most of the gums which we see usually do not cause any problem. Infact many of the gums are recommended for good oral hygiene. It lubricates the throat, it makes your gum and throat more white and shinier and many times it improves the dental hygiene over a certain extent. In any case, prolonged chewing of any gum, whether it is a whitening gum or any gum which is sugar free, it is not recommended. You can chew one or two pieces of gum as and when required but overdoing anything is not recommended. Although there is no recommendation of chewing gum everyday, there is no harm in doing it. In any case any gum which you chew for a long time is not supposed to cause any patches in the throat or in the oral cavity or in the tongue. So if you do have patches in oral cavity or in the tongue, then it is imperative that you get it examined by your dental surgeon or an ENT surgeon as soon as possible, although there is no direct link with the gum chewing and the patch.
