Harvesting beeswax to make wood polish (or candles!) 🐝

I know there are some companies using beeswax and cotton scraps of make reusable wraps to replace plastic wax. It’d be a great way to reuse any old cotton clothes!

you could use it to make a lotion or cream. A friend of mine is a beekeeper and she collects wax until she has enough to sell it to candle makers, artists or people who make their own lotions. Depending on how many hives you have that may take a while.

Fun fact bees are one of my favorite insects because of how efficient they can make hives
If you don't know beeswax is not food for them nor is it something that they specifically make It is actually a byproduct of their bodies and them eating honey
How it works is a bee will eat honey and then start sweating wax they then groom themselves collecting all the wax they will then chew it all up put it down and use it as a waxy concrete of sorts for all their hive infrastructure
I've actually never seen a empty honeycomb since it seems the bees took everything of value but left the infrastructure (which is also why bees are the most annoying creatures to farm because you have to make them happy if they're not happy they move and leave to find a place that does make them happy)

As far as I remember bees wax smells so out of this world. It’s such a unique smell and I’m not around it much anymore but feel like I can remember it acutely

Since everyone is writing what they use beeswax for, here is what i do. I make a basic pomade with either beeswax and coconut oil, or beeswax and shea butter. You can really experiment with the proportions, and if you add different oils, you can make it even better. You can use the base, as a lipstick, hair pomade, hand creme, but my absolute favourite is, as a dog paw balm. This stuff is just amazing! It protects their paw from the snow, and cold on winter walks, keeps them soft after walking on the hot summer concrete etc. For winter I usually do a higher concentration of beeswax and less oils, and the opposite when I want to help their dry paws a little. ❤

I used to work with bees in Florida in lake Wales for a year I loved it

Beeswax is also great for the skin u can mix it with some oils to make it a lip balm or skin moisturizer

During the great depression people would harvest bees wax like this and pour it down into their cheap birdshot shells, so the shot would stick together and act like a slug for hunting bigger game. Real slugs were much more expensive, so this is the only way you could bag yourself a deer rather than living off birds and squirrels

As Kids, we chew the wax straight out of the hive when harvesting honey. Its delicious and healthy

Some of impurities in beeswax can be really cool, sometimes if you dont get rid of the impurities it can make some really pretty stuff.
