Have you ever thought that you lack creativity? Maybe what you actually lack is perspective. By sharing an Eastern perspective on our Western concept of creativity, Leon Tsao emphasizes the importance of achieving a balance between the two.

Leon Tsao is a graduate student in the Gifted and Creative Education Program at the University of Georgia. He works under the advisement of Dr. Bonnie Cramond on neurodiversity advocacy (the idea that we should appreciate the diversity in which people's brains and that we should not shun differences), finding the relationship between ADHD and creativity, discovering the benefits of interdisciplinary collaborations including that of engineers and artists, and identifying the needs of philosophically gifted students. He is working on a book comprising of a series of artfully composed short essays and poems about discovering the inner self and the interconnectedness of all. He is running a video blog on personal growth through personality typology. He likes tennis, chess, painting, playing guitar, and singing. He hopes to teach at a community college or small college some day.

I've always seen creativity as being more about the process than the product. In working with yarn, I often choose simple patterns to let the beauty of the yarn shine. Other times I use simple yarns to create complex patterns. I suppose that's my personal take on balance in creativity. Thank you for giving us something to think about.

While in the past we ought to choose what we is needed, now we need more and more to choose what we don't need.

Lol, an infp having to present things as Te/Se/Fe to get an audience's attention.

I can feel the vulnerability where you think your Fi won't be valued to an audience/will be seen as weak... but actually it looks like inner power to me.

This is such an interesting talk.

Interesting that eastern art reminded me of a math equation and a physics equation.  e iπ + 1 = 0 and E=mc squared.   <-- notation is lost but it's euler and einstein.  If the mona lisa had seen Eulers equation; she'd have never posed.
I had always thought the drawing things were to learn impermanance... nothing lasts forever though i probably made that word up.

So basically: western = maximalist; eastern = minimalist
