Factor analysis is a dimension reduction technique. The goal is to find out latent factors or hidden groups that are responsible for the observed data in the variables.

For example, if an employee is unhappy in an organization, there could be many reasons for it, but, if looked carefully, these reasons can be grouped together within some smaller set of MAJOR reasons! Factor analysis helps us find these major groups of variables in the data which are also known as Factors.

not sure what the variance indicates for when analysing a questionnaire of 192 respondents? how does the factor analysis divides the features into groups? based on what?
