This channel should be called "Golf Instruction Greatest Hits." Love the drills in this video and really enjoyed the Solid Strike video course as well. Thanks so much Adam for your commitment to helping us golfers get better at this crazy game!

Adam, I love your videos and have improved quite a bit since watching them. I only started golfing this summer for the first time at the age of 55. But I’m confused on this one. I don’t understand how hitting the ball to the right will correct the swing path. I hit my irons fairly straight now(thanks to your videos) but now I’m back to slicing my driver.
Thanks again for your time to do these videos for us.

That makes sense... Once you get it, then you get it, that's how I was with lag anyways, and now I can hit 320 yard drives effortlessly

This guy knows what he’s talking about pretty consistently. Definitely one of the best choices on YouTube

Finally someone bright enough to teach the patient approach. I don’t think anyone can permanently fix a golf swing in one lesson. I think it has to be developed based on simple, broad themes...then refined over time with gentle, practiced adjustments. Thanks again for not forcing people to panic.

Yeah, this is huge. Helped me significantly. Makes clean ball striking easier, period.

I realized I hit “out to in” when I started to hit my irons more solid and with a divot. Problem is my divot was pointing wayy left of the target . I way hitting the ball with too much sidespin.

How do I stop spinning out? Meaning I think I'm rotating my shoulders first and my front foot always moves to the right, left handed golfer here. Thanks.

Hi Adam. Great channel and video. After doing this drill, I felt the club shallow automatically. Does swinging from the inside cause the club to shallow? (Sure feels like it.) Thanks Adam!

thanks, but still can't fix my swing.

This drill actually works really well to get the feeling of hitting from the inside out. I used this drill to change my drive path and was amazed at how effective hitting from the inside to out is. It's a really hard concept for a lot of people to understand mentally that hitting from the inside to the outside creates a straight shot, took me a couple years, but it works.

Wish I'd seen this video 3 months ago. I developed the shanks after playing well for a long time, caused by 'casting' or 'going over the top'. Researched it heavily and found that I needed to come more from the inside. This worked short term but then the wheels really came off. I have recently learned that I was taking the backswing from the inside also but far too much. It created a new casting problem to try and get back to the ball at impact. I'm now trying to start more square at the backswing and inside on the downswing. Early results are positive but needs a few tweaks. Thanks for the video Adam, and those fairways look like carpet!

Korean title is so wrong...
please change it as "인사이드 아웃 스윙 훈련"
Btw.. thanks for great videos always

By far the best YouTube golf instruction IMO. Simple, effective drills. I've found AB's "throwing" the club towards your target drill particularly effective. So much so in fact that I made my first HIO this week with that one swing thought in mind!

Adam - what a fantastic drill. This has got me swinging from outside in to inside out! If only I knew it was this simple! For any cricket fans out there, think of playing a cover drive when you're practising the drill. Awesome stuff.

Hitting a draw is one of the most difficult skills you can acquire. It's comparable to playing the entire solo to Hotel California, note for note on guitar. Here are the things that must happen to hit a draw:
1. The club must drop straight down at start of downswing - if your hips or shoulders rotate first (over the top), you're dead
2. Your shoulders must rotate around the axis of your spine, which means the left shoulder will lower on the back swing, and right shoulder will lower on the downswing and follow through. If you don't drop your right shoulder, you cannot hit from the inside.
3. Your right wrist must be extended - palm up at the top of the backswing. Do not start flexing the wrist until the handle is coming across your body, and never go beyond neutral (flipping the club).
4. The right elbow must stay close to the body and must clear your right hip as your hands pass in front of you. If you're not flexible enough to clear your hip (most of us aren't), you will have to slide your hips slightly forward.
5. Your hands must be past the ball at impact, and before fully releasing the club.
6. Your left arm must be fully extended, with your left bicep tucked snugg-ly against your chest, elbow against your left side, and antecubital facing upward.
7. As your hands cross in front of you, complete your hip and shoulder turn - push through with the right shoulder as if you were doing an upper cut. Extend your right arm through impact as you release the club. Try to keep your center of gravity over your feet - when you first learn, it will feel as if you are falling toward the ball as you finish the swing.
8. Once you have your path inside to out by performing the proper transitions, work on getting the club face closed at impact (as mentioned in the video). The key is to keep the left wrist flat, or slightly flexed (no cupping!) and it should feel as if you are turning the back of your left hand towards the ground at impact (known as hooding the ball).

Take the eight things above and work on them one at a time. Then start combining them. Be patient, and don't worry about the outcome until all pieces are together. The first drill should be done using just your left arm, do a big shoulder turn and allow gravity to let the club drop straight down before starting your shoulder turn. Then do the same with only your right arm, keeping the elbow tucked - then put it together with both hands.
The 9 O'clock to 3 O'clock drill is also excellent for identifying many bad habits.

Best of luck!

I believe what would be useful to add is that with a more in to out swing the weight shifting towards the left foot becomes even more important. Why do people come from the out to in in the first place? As it is in my case: I had bad ball contact when coming in to out because I didn't shift enough. With out to in swings, I had better ball contacts but had shots to the left or - worst case scenario - shanks.
So coming more from the inside should eradicate shanks or shots to the left, but to really get the most out of it, it is fundamental to focus on the correct weight distribution throughout the swing. I strongly believe there is a strong connection between all these topics.

probably one of the better Videos. Getting into the science gets too boring for most golfers. A simple drill is best for most armatures but, if I were to help you identify a way to improve / I would say to ask the student to practice this drill 75 times with maybe a couple of breaks, ,say after every 25 swings. Just a 30 second break. Maybe putt a couple of balls or, swing a couple of chip / pitch shots then, come back and do 25 more until it starts to become second nature. Then, after 75 swings, tee up a ball and hit the 6 iron or 7 or driver. This is something I look forward to doing and after hundreds of videos over my 15 year golf game, as a major improvement. Thank you so much for sharing this drill. John : j

Great timing on this tip. I am working on in to out with my coach right now. Thus seems like a great drill on the driving range. You got a new subscriber. As a recently-retired 64-year-old I need very simple tips.

Thanks, I guess I need to do this to fix my problem, sometimes to correct bad habits, I have to do what I need to do. Thanks, Adam.
Good video.
