I've built about 3 of these guys in my modeling career. The first was built when Neil Sedaka was playing on the radio in the fall of 1975. A gift from my God parents, I had it built within a week with all of the systems working that came along with these cool little kits. Folding wings, retractable gear! Operating tailhook. All of the Monogram Naval aviation kits were amazing! So many features that added to the realism. For a 12 hear old at the time it was awesome! Recreating the Battle of Midway or the Philippine Sea was the best.

I might try assembling the kit, sanding, putty, sanding, then painting and trying weathering. But you do you. As long as you enjoy the process. Also look out for good kits. Revell does make some but not that kit.

I had trouble with the wings as well, ended up just cementing it in the flying position
