In this video, I cover Intels 14th Gen Meteor Lake chips and how they changed to 5nm TSMC from Intel 7nm design in order to compete with Apples M1 Chips, and Qualcomms new Snapdragon 8CX chips that they designed with poached engineers from Nuvia purchase to take on Apple M Series chips like the M1, M2, M3..

Do you think Intel or Qualcomm will be able to BEAT Apple Silicon? If so, how long will it take?

I don’t care much for any sort of brand loyalty, I’m just happy that there is this big push for performance and energy efficiency and hope all these companies make huge strides in those areas.

Former Qualcomm Engineer checking in. Don’t underestimate Qualcomm .. trust me they are always below the radar and making moves behind the scenes. This isn’t over

Intel: By late 2023, our competitor to the M1 Chip will be available

Apple: Late 2023, announces M3 chips

So what, this is exactly what Apple did back in the day when they got ready to start designing their own chips with A series. They hired people and bought up chip design companies and brought them in house. Remember the semiconductor company intrinsity that Apple acquired and brought in house to design chips for them? No different than Qualcomm buying the company consisting of ex Apple employees. These guys might be former intrinsity employees actually

If intel wanted to stay on top they shouldn’t have dragged their feet when they didn’t have any competition. Before ryzen and Apple intel basically had a monopoly on processors. Wasn’t it Intel’s old CEO the one who said “
success breeds complacency, complacency breeds failure”

Because of course, Apple never hires engineers from any of the competition…

So glad this is happening, competition is pushing innovation.

Apple does the same with software all the time.

Panorama view was a third party service provided using an app.... Apple liked it so much that they straight up implemented it in their newer iPhones.

I saw a video on YouTube about a reporter who took a job making Apple products in China. I was appalled at how these people are treated. I don’t care how shady Qualcomm and Intel are, Apple is worse. It is amazing that anyone can be an Apple fan boy.

Intels chip was always going to have tmsc components. Their new chip design is an apu with arc components which use tsmc-this was always going to be the case. Dont know why you're making it out like they're stealing from apple, it's not like apple own tmsc or anything...

Intel P cores even on intel 7(10nm) is still doing quite well in single core power, now if that were to go to 5nm alone would give them a bump, let alone raptorlake, and meteorlake (no in efficiency put the perfromance they still have. AMD at 6nm is quite competitive already with Zen 3 (6900hs) with zen 4 around the corner.

Fun times in the silicone industry

Apple works heavily on optimization. They are also benefited by having own OS for their hardware. So, I don’t think other chips will ever keep up with apple’s.

Intel have the big disadvantage that their processors are put into a very diverse range of devices.
Consequently, Intel have to put a lot of flexibility into their chips, which inevitably means a loss of performance.
Apple, on the other hand, can develop devices and processors in tandem and tune their chips nicely for performance.

Apple shouldn’t worry. Their software works smoothly with the M series chips. Total hardware design. Solid calibration the end result of which customers love even before the M series transition. The ex-Apple engineers cannot recreate the Apple digital ecosystem that makes Macs and iPads leading tech devices. It is not just about a chip.

Apple is the most shady company ever existed.

I think all of these companies should come together and release a big daddy do-it-all chip, just to beat apple. Cause that will be epic to see.

Dude, check Intel and AMD' offerings against M2. Except productivity workloads like video editing, M2 falls behind in a lot of things.

Given that the OS and ecosystem play such a major role in purchasing decisions, Apple's competitors don't actually have to beat them, they just need to be somewhat competitive with improvements. It looks like that much is going to happen.

As it is, having lost the ability to run BootCamp (keeping in mind that Microsoft themselves is now a competitor with the Surface), I'm going to have to buy my first Windows computer in years to do some of my work. Unfortunately, there are many Windows-only programs I need and running them in virtual environments is not ideal especially if they utilize NVIDIA GPUs.

At the end of the day, these are ARM chips. Apple shouldn't have any monopoly over ARM-based laptops.
