That ending where Connor comes back after getting shot by Hank hurts me so much.
It’s symbolic of Hank’s past and trauma of losing his son. He’s trying to move on but after Connor appears, he begins to see Connor like Cole, his son. After Connor dying so many times, Hank wants to just end it all.

Connor is symbolic of his past haunting him. It’s worse when he never goes away, even after “dying”.
His past will always come back to haunt him.

As someone who hadn't know about dbh when i first saw this, my interpretarion was I legit thought hank is a scientist who keeps recreating connor (i kind of had an idea he's not 'human' for his circle led, blue blood, and several gravestones) and drinks his sorrows away. On the other hand, the child shown (that's supposed to be cole), i thought connor had some human thoughts that he longed to experience being hank's child or something.

I’m interpreting this:
Hank had trust issues from his past trauma. Hank sees himself as someone broken, a single shoe, a clock without hands, and he’s hurting because of how he is. He sees himself as a “monster”. Connor tries to convince him that no one is perfect, and he tries to fill up all of the voids in Hanks life. Connor does so, but Hank thinks that it is too good to be true. He’s scared of the change because he doesn’t want to be hurt again. Hank continues to push away, but realizes that even if he does, even if he drinks or says mean things, even if Connor dies, Connor is still there for him. It’s hard for Hank to believe that he can be happy again, but Connor insists that they can be happy together. And I think Hank finally realizes this too.

It’s such a sweet song. And it touches up on this pair perfectly. Romantically, as a family, platonically, or otherwise... Hanks troubling past and trust issues, his and Connors relationship that changes them both for the better, and Connor’s earnestness and genuine concern for Hank all shine through in this song. hi, i’m sure u probably won’t see this comment, but i just wanna say that this video really inspired me as an artist two years ago. around that time i was about to give up on art but i watched this video and some other d:bh animatics and they really motivated me to keep drawing. now i’m an honors art student in high school as a just graduated freshman, and i absolutely would not have gone to the tryouts if i had not been inspired by this. thank you :)
