UTENA therefore you and me

Basically I went on a crazy Utena kick after my video essay on my other channel @ noralities
and couldn't live until this was out of my system. I somehow made this in about a week, and was able to reuse some anthy frames from my essay.
The last utena animatic I did was more 50/50 split on anthy/utenas perspective but this one is almost entirely from anthys viewpoint. I think I've improved a lot since then, I've certainly gotten faster at animating.

I've always loved this song and knew I wanted to do an animatic for it, but never new what series or character to do with it until BAM

I can't believe how good this is. All those references go so well with the lyrics and your art is so cute but with some "realistic" feeling because of their bodies. I got very emotional watching this. I think this is my favorite version of Therefore You and I.

I specially liked the part about avatars and the "as a result of not noticing", or the 1:21 part... What am I even saying, I loved every single second of it. Every time I watch it and notice something new, I fall even more in love with this~

I could write a whole essay on all the shot choices in this, the lyrics and how deliberately they were illustrated, the flat tone of the song that matches Anthy’s muted flat affect, the song choice as a whole my GOD, the stunning drawings— all of it rivals my old favorite Vocaloid PVs, and that’s saying something. ...ok so tadanoco is probably my favorite producer, and i always have loved looking to see if people were making redraws with their songs to other media, but i stopped doing that a few years back bc it didnt really happen. and i always wished i had the time and energy to do it myself. and now today i see this video with one of my favorite songs with my favorite anime and big mood energy all over the place. this is incredibly nostalgic and really gets me in the heart. a lot. ...this is awesome haha.
