If you have 8 cores like this Mac mini you have 800% CPU available. So if you use 100% it means one core is maxed out.

I may not be a religious guy, but I REALLY appreciate the information you put out in this video! Top notch info. Thanks a bunch for taking the time to make it!

The reason the CPU spikes over 100% happens because the application is multithreaded, meaning it's using more cores of the CPU to execute the work, making it quicker and more efficient. If one core can't handle it, it "splits" the work across cores so it can get to the result (that is displaying the content at 4K resolution on the congregation monitor) done in time.

Great video!!! Super informative and in depth. I would love for you guys to do more lighting setups /tutorials for small to midsize churches. Cheers!

I’ve been using an M1 Mini with 16gb to run our church livestream and it doesn’t break a sweat...at all. It handles the ATEM, Universal Control for our house mixer run through and audio interface connected to the M1, audio routed to StudioOne for effects, Spotify, loopback and Ecamm for the stream.

It is an absolutely amazing machine and I agree with you - don’t waste money on an Intel Mac right now for your church...multiple mini’s would be a wise investment but a single Mini is all we needed right now.

We recently sold our 5k iMac with an rx580 and an i7700k. In its place we decided on the M1 Mac mini, with only a third of the price we sold the iMac with (let alone how much it was brand new). The m1 is almost exactly on par, using just 25% of the CPU on daily usage (the old iMac used 20%). Honestly best option for all churches.

Thanks for the video... spent hours doing research today wondering if the exact setup you just described would work. Perfect timing!

Spot on Jake ! We have been using the M1 Mac with date via and it has been a tank! Now if you can implement the Roland SPDSX in to your current church set up you will have the perfect “enhancement small venue band”😂! Keep up the great work brother!

Apple software will not send a video signal if it detects that potentially copyrighted content can be broadcast on unprotected viewing hardware. So, apple's Quicktime software block the video out to the stream because you can theoretically pirate content. This is true even if you play a purchased movie on the Mac mini and a remote computer is connected with the screenshare app in a local network.

My understanding is that the activity monitor shows the percentage of one CPU, so if more than one CPU is being used by the process then it could be more than 100%.

the computer actually has as many thunderbolt controllers as the intel version. Just that on Intel you have two ports per controller, so total bandwidth is equal.

I just bought an external case and an AMD rx580 which gives me 5 displays on last year's Mac mini

Jake!
Could you send your livestream stream to the main lyric/video screens ? So that during baptisms people in the back of the sanctuary can see better?

I actually have 3 hdmi outputs connected to my m1 macmini with a Plugable dock and a StarTech usb to HDMI adapter and that seems to function with DisplayLink Manager

I've been hearing about a lot of problems with the M1 machines, from overheating to incompatibility with software. I expect that the compatibility problems will work themselves out eventually, but Apple has a history of not fixing overheating problems and even the Intel Macs were limited to three displays, while Windows would run many displays on the same hardware. I don't expect Apple will move in the direction of supporting the kind of functionality that we need.

You can convert DisplayPort to hdmi with a cheap adaptor. Also if you use ndi output for confidence monitor and congregation screens you don’t need any extra boxes.... when ndi support is ready😔
