Very interesting. I also heard that you can rap a pencil against a table or wooden board [probably like they did in the old time radio shows]. Sounds realistic enough.

always thought professional gunmen used a sound stage w/ real guns, then placed it on the soundtrack.some of the Thompsons used in Bonnie & Clyde sound so real, one of their surviving gang members saw the film and said it was the only realistic part of the 1967 portrayal, having been in gun battles w/ the Barrow gang. he was turned down by the Army during WWII 'cause he had already been pretty seriously wounded. I digress, but also, the scene in the tourist cottage even has slightly muffled Thompsons during the indoor portions of the battle. it stands the test of time, particularly in a theater.

Interesting, but not what I was looking for. I wasn't looking for info about the sound of gunshots, but about the blood explosions in movies like Bonnie & Clyde and Django.
