Step-by-step instructions for lacing Converse your Vans Old Skool:

0:00 - Method 1: Loosely
1. Put your laces through the first two eyelets;
2. Then make sure both ends of the lace are even;
3. Take the string in the first eyelet on the left and put it in the second on the right;
4. Take the string in the first eyelet on the right and put it in the second on the left. ( Use your finger to limit the lace);
5. Repeat this lacing pattern for the rest of the eyelet;
6. Now instead of going through the top of the eyelet, go through the bottom, from inside to out on both sides.

3:04 - Method 2: Bar lace
1. Insert each end of the shoelace downward through one of the bottom two eyelets;
2. Feed the right lace underneath the shoe so that it pops out of the third eyelet on the right side;
3. Then feed the left lace underneath the shoe so that it pops out of the second eyelet on the left side;
4. Cross the left lace over to the right side and insert it downward through the second eyelet;
5. Then cross the right lace over to the left side and insert it downward through the third eyelet;
6. Repeat this lacing pattern for the rest of the eyelet.

5:51 - Method 3: Zig-zag
1. Put the lace through the eyelets not over the top;
2. Take the lace from the inside of the sneaker and go through the next eyelet up and across;
3. Then do the same with this lace but on the other side;
4. Repeat these steps until you reach the final eyelets;
5. Insert the right lace through the loop you have now created on the right;
6. Repeat this lacing pattern for the rest of the eyelet;

8:35 - Method 4: X & Bar lace
1. Place one end of the shoelace through the second top left hole;
2. Then thread the right end of the shoelace into the first left hole from the top;
3. Put that same string to the first right eyelet from the bottom;
4. Then put that same string to the second right eyelet from the bottom;
5. Now put that same string to the first left eyelet from the bottom;
6. Put that same string to the second left eyelet from the bottom;
7. Using the left end, thread it in the opposite hole in a straight line.
8. Then insert the end of the shoelace into the next right eyelet;
9. Keep going until you reach the final eyelets;
10. Pass the same rope again through the second right eyelet from the top.

12:30 - Method 5: Section
1. First of all put your laces through the first two eyelets;
2. Then, make sure both ends of the lace are even;
3. Take the string in the last eyelet on the left and put it in the fifth on the right;
4. Then put it in the second on the left;
5. Now put it in the sixth on the right;
6. Repeat this for the rest of the loops;
7. Take the string in the last eyelet on the right and put it in the fifth on the left;
8. Then put it in the second on the right;
9. Now put it in the sixth on the left;
10. Repeat this for the rest of the eyelet.

12:30 - Method 6: Diamond
1. Starting from the two bottom opposite facing holes, insert each end of the shoelace from the inside. Make sure both sides of the remaining laces are equal;
2. Take the lace in the last eyelet on the right and put it in the third on the left;
3. Then put that same lace under to the previous eyelet;
4. Then take the lace in the last eyelet on the left and put it in the third on the right;
5. Then put that same lace under to the previous eyelet;
6. Repeat this lacing pattern for the rest of the eyelet.

18:43 - Method 7: Big diamond
1. First of all put your laces through the second bottom eyelets;
2. Then make sure both ends of the lace are even;
3. Hide the lace under the tongue of the sneakers;
4. Take the right lace and thread it from the bottom into the first eyelet;
5. Then thread the same lace into the eyelet;
6. Take the left lace and thread it from the bottom into the first eyelet;
7. Then thread the same lace into the eyelet;
8. Insert the first left end of the shoelace into the fourth right hole from the bottom;
9. Then thread it from the bottom into the third eyelet;

I love the bar lace one as it looks nice and neat. Just did these for my converses and vans. Thanks for this tutorial it’s very helpful and I’m glad now I know what it’s called 😃👍❤️

Spiral/Double Helix lacing is life changing stuff, I pretty much do every shoe I own apart from really dressy ones in that manner. Easy to tighten, easy to loosen, and the low friction allows any slack and snags to sort of work themselves out as you move until it feels balanced. And if you mirror it, it looks great, especially with broad, flat laces

Tried the section style on my vans, and now I can’t seem to take them off, I love them that much more!

And I absolutely want to try other different styles like the X & Bar lace, though I do wonder how much lace you should have to spare when finished (guess I’ll find out the fun way) and that spiral style looks sooo good too! I’ve definitely got to give that a swing too!
