In Toyota We Trust: Best Camry Models

The Toyota Camry has been North America's best-selling passenger car for over two decades – let's take a look at the most dependable model years.

The Toyota Camry made its way to U.S. shores in 1983 as a reliable, economical family sedan ready to take on fellow Japanese rivals, the best-selling Honda Accord. However, by 1997 the Camry took its first of many best-selling passenger cars of the year awards from the Ford Taurus, an award Toyota has stubbornly held on to for 25 years. In fact, the Camry scored its record sales year a decade later with the dreaded debutant XV40 model in 2007, which sold a whopping 473,108 units as the little sedan cemented its place as Toyota's most reliable/cost-effective offering.

Due to the Toyota Camry's outstanding reputation for dependability, resale value has become another accolade in the mid-size sedan's locker. According to CarEdge, a Toyota Camry loses just 24% of its value after five years of ownership. So, using statistics from J.D. Power, let's look at the most reliable model years for North America's best-selling passenger car, the Toyota Camry.

Im a mechanic and have been working on all generations of Camrys for many years now, and from my experience the 1998 to 2002 model camrys were the most reliable ever built. The smaller version 3.0 ltr v6 is in my opinion one of the most bullet proof & more fuel effecient than the bigger 3.5 v6 version.

Early 90s-01 are still all over the roads today. Almost just as much as these 2020 and up models. They are almost bulletproof in reliability and just work!

My 2001 Camry 4 Cyl with 252K miles and Running like a champ, but I'm a sales rep and that's my company car, I cover the 1/2 of Florida in that car so soon I'll replace it, I'll go with the 2014 SE 4 Cyl.

I just purchased a 2016 SE with only 65K miles on it. So far it runs well, it's in great shape, and it will (hopefully) bring me years of safe, comfortable driving. This is my 2nd Camry, I had a '97 that I drove until I purchased a 2011 Sonata. The Sonata did well but finally showed signs of age after about 205K miles so I went back to old reliable 📈

My favorite was the 2002-2006 4 cylinder Camry! Such a comfortable ride that gets great gas mileage and holds almost 20 gallons of gas.

I'm looking over a 2014 Toyota Camry SE V6. When the car is idle, I can turn the steering wheel with no play and no clunking sound, but when I am driving, I hear and feel a quiet knocking sound felt near inside the steering wheel. Do you know what this can be?

I can slide in/out of my 2003 car with ease. Does anyone know when the seat design changed to those dreaded raised sides. Don’t want a car with them. Thanks

The 2017 was the last great Camry. The 2018 and up barley made a Ok Camry if you overlook all it's problems. The new Camry's are junk. I hated my 2020. It was a piece of junk that confused itself to the point of not knowing if it wanted to slam on the brakes or go FWD. I replaced it with a 10 year old Ford before it's second oil change.
