Which Cities Will Pay You to Move There (and Work Remote)?!

What will it take for you to up and leave to an entirely new state or country?

In this video let's talk about the impact of remote work on ruralization and how you can get paid to move!

(00:15) How the World is Changing Toward Ruralization Because of Remote Work

Covid-19 has led to a profound shift in work culture. More people are working remotely than ever, and since more people don't need to live in a specific city for a job, we're seeing a mass exodus from major cities like New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

But, if you're moving from a city because you don't have to work there, where should you go?

You might consider a new city or maybe even an entirely different country, especially if they pay you or provide other incentives.

Which brings me to my next point, the re-ruralization of western economies.

There has been a growing divide in the prosperity between rural and urban or metropolitan areas all over the world, with more resources flooding into big cities because they typically attract larger candidate pools and make more sense for businesses to move there.

But now, that's changing with global talent pools.

Now restrictions apply, and there is a separate process for each of these opportunities, so if any of them interest you please do your own research as it also changes over time.

But the point is, smaller towns are able to use the changing dynamics of work as an opportunity to draw in talent and, of course, money! An influx of remote workers brings economic development in a sustained fashion.

(3:21) So, at this point, there’s just one thing you have to worry about - is the Wi-Fi good?

In the U.S alone, hundreds of rural fiber companies are making massive investments in their networks to provide services to towns. Co-ops and local providers are making investments in their communities because they know it spells long-term success.

My guy Goncalo Hall created the Digital Nomads Village in Madeira Portugal to revive a completely barren village and loaded it with a co-working space, good wifi, and nomads from all over the world.

While there are certainly trade-offs, and potentially unknown consequences or negatives, from the looks of it, moving can help you line your pocket, give you a better quality of life, and provides small towns with the chance to grow.

So should you do it?

Speaking from experience and living in 15 different countries on 5 continents, and multiple states here in the US, there's been nothing more impactful in my life than living in other places. I'm thrilled with the opportunities presented to people this day and age.
