Stormy Monday Selection (Occasional Series - Acts of Random Archive Rummaging)

The recent 36th-anniversary of Three Of A Perfect Pair prompted Alex ‘Stormy’ Mundy to delve into the multi-track reels from the sessions and come up with this engaging X-ray view of Man With An Open Heart, a song from what was originally called The Left Side of the album, that is, more accessible song-based material. In this welcome new light on a quirky exploration of pop sensibilities and wildly contrasting textural devices, it’s interesting to be able to hear more areas in the overall performance including Tony Levin’s backing vocals overall and particularly in the middle eight section, that were placed much further back in the original mix.

Just kills me that people said this album was lacking in some way. Tremendous songs, gorgeous musical passages, inventive playing, they created a kind of gleaming digital world.

Crimson flirting with Bowiesque pop of a certain era. Wonderful!!
Fripp should consider bringing Adrian Belew back into the fold in some capacity. He was an interesting dynamic within Crimson and his contribution to the band's repertoire was exemplary. From Discipline to Level 5; shows a particular commitment to the ethos (movable feast) that makes Crimson KING CRIMSON. The invention of musical possibilities.

An underrated sleeper, if you ask me. Nice to hear more of the details in the guitars too.

I love pure pop King Crimson like this, wish they made more music in the 80s.

Lake, Wetton, Belew, and now Jakszyk. Some of the best vocals in Prog Rock have passed thru KC. This is a great take on this song.

The absent lovers:live at the spectrum is the best version of this song! Totally love it

A lot more going on that isn't evident in the original version. Takes me back to 1984 and my tiny one-bedroom apartment in Long Beach, CA. Thanks.

After the events of April 1st, I expected the channel to go quiet for a long time. I'm very happy to be proven wrong

Jeesh...36 years have gone by??? I bought this on vinyl the day it came out. Adrian signed it for me the last time I saw him with his power trio a few years ago.
