This is an example of what critics of America's foreign policy don't address. It's certainly not beyond criticism or anywhere near perfect, of course, but still. You can bitch about "imperialism" all you like but if the US doesn't lead (or at least look out for its own interests), some other country with sufficient might will happily assume a hegemonic role.
