Manga Artists WORK HARDER Than Western Comic Book Creators.

The creator and manga-ka of Berserk, Kentaro Miura, has died at age 54. Is overwork partially to blame? We talk about the insane hours that manga creators keep and compare it to their Western comic book counterparts. While the hours in comics are LONG no matter where you're located, Westerners on average don't seem to dedicate their entire lives to their creations the way the Japanese do. But is this a GOOD thing?

Also the creator of Beastars is the daughter of the creator of Baki, a super popular manga series since the 90s, and she explained how a good chunk of her life she didn’t see her dad because he’d have to get these deadlines done for the manga.

They aren't even in the same universe, Miura's editors would get angry at him because he obsessed about the quality of his drawings down to checking the drawings pixel by pixel on his PC, this isn't a result of someone forcing him to do that or a deadline, that's his work ethic and passion about his life's work, R.I.P Kentaro Miura.

As an artist myself I can say that for sure I appreciate the hard effort the artists in Japan and how much content they do and yet get so little 😞…these people deserve much more credit than the art we get here who don’t try at all to put effort on improving or do quality art…may Kentaro Miura Rest In Peace….

It’s as Guts said “He died doing what he loved, no matter what. I bet he was happy.” I like to think in his final moment Miura was happy. Knowing that despite not finishing his series. And despite the people dedicated to finish it in his place, he knew that his legacy will last an eternity in how it has influenced the world. Fly high like a Hawk Miura, we will certainly miss you.
Edit: Miura actually leading up to his passing told his directors how the story is meant to conclude and what leads up to it and has trained his assistants in his art style. So while he may not finish his Magnum Opus, he’s left behind people who are willing to.

Yoshihiro Togashi literally drew portions of Hunter x Hunter while bedridden with back pain. Then apologized for it not being up to previous quality and redid them for the volumes. He refuses to hand it over to anyone else despite hiatuses. Western comic artists don’t seem to have that same passion for their art.
