You get a/b = 3/7 + 1= 10/7

Answer is B. Rewrite the left side as a/b - 1. Then add 1 to both sides, you'll end up with a/b = 10/7

Wrong u can't just know or declare the value of an unknown in an equation that has two unknowns in this condition

The method you used is not right when illustrating a concept to a student as Feliz Yip explained the ratio is 3/7 but not the actual b value. The real way to solve this easy equation is to separate the fraction into a/b -1 = 3/7, and after adding 1 to both sides you obtain the ratio of a/b which is 10/7.

There is a much easier and faster way to solve this question.
One of the properties of proportions is that you can add the denominator of each side to the numerator. Basically, if u have a proportion a/b=c/d, then (a+b)/b=(c+d)/d. Using this you can simply do a-b+b/b=3+7/7, so 10/7 would be the answer.
PS The method you used was not completely correct since you can’t definitively tell that b is 7. It could be 14 where the fraction is 6/14. If a/b=c/d, a is not necessarily = c and b is likewise not necessarily = d.

Take denominators to other sides setting it up as
7a-7b = 3b

7a = 10b

a/b = 10/7


It’s literally that easy. Barely takes 30 seconds. There is no need to make new tricks. Keep it as simple as you possibly can. This video isn’t “simple”. Stop throwing out all the different methods and do the easiest one. This measures ensures the most direct approach to the answer without any room of overthinking.
