YT should 100% allow shorts views to count toward watch hours. Also, to keep the ridiculous 3M or 10M views in 90-days metric alienates 99.99% of creators AND influencers.

Shorts public watch hours should count toward entering the YPP. Watch time is watch time and it shouldn't matter if viewed through vertical or landscape videos. 10m views in 90 days is too steep a requirement. Watch hours from shorts should also count toward getting monetized. Just my two cents.

For the record, YouTube is now the only platform where I am not monetized. I achieved monetization on Tiktok, and Facebook through shorts.

I also hear that YPP pays significantly less than competitors for shorts content, so what is even the benefit of trying to grind out the 10m views? If shorts viewers converted to long form, that could be a reason, but in my experience, that doesn't happen either.

i would love the option to make thumbnails out of frames for our shorts because they show up in home feeds eitherway, we need to be able to decorate our content and give it the flare that thumbnails on videos already have!

Personally, I kinda hope Shorts stay under 60 seconds. We already have the option to make longform content and I wouldn't want shorts to cannibalize that market any more than they already do.

Plus as an animator its tough/expensive to make content any longer than 60 seconds. If the shorts algorithm favored longer content it would tank accounts like mine 😅😭

90 second limit would be perfect for most creators! Because some make videos for both tiktok and youtube shorts, and it's kinda hard when you need to remove some parts from your video for it to fit on shorts (because on tiktok you can only monetiza 1+ minute videos). of course you can make every video exactly 1 minute, but it would be still great to extend the lenght of shorts to at least 90 seconds.

Please make it available to add custom thumbnails from desktop. When making produced shorts content it is not ideal to have to send it over to a phone to pick a thumbnail from a frame when uploading.

I feel YouTube should play to its strengths and throw their creativity and passion into what YouTube is best at: long form content. Chasing what other platforms are doing (and admitting does not make any real money for creators or the platform) is such a waste of talent and resources. YouTube - lean in hard on long form content. This obsession with shorts is a distraction to both the platform and creators.

I'm glad you two feel so good about the new features added that I'll likely never use. Yet the one I need (and judging by the comments, many others agree) remains unanswered, i.e., the ability to choose the thumbnail on the desktop. Is that even on your team's roadmap, Johanna?

Yea, i'm earning money on shorts... 3 cents per 1K shorts views...but as long as shorts barely get 500 views withl no ability for custom/preferred thumbnails, it's useless for me as a serious creator. It only works for others because of stolen content, twice daily spamming, or they already have a massive following. -- As a Youtube viewer I would love to disable shorts btw, it's a mess on desktop. Next up: *Random short*, "Latest upload endscreen card: *Short", any Youtube search result: hundreds of random shorts taking over search with spammy shorts, and barely any high quality widescreen content anymore, please let us disable the shorts shelf on the subscriptions page. Shorts is for phone scrolling, not for desktop. And even then, I want to disable them for phone as well, way too many stolen "dashcam", "fail" "pawnstar/TV" content in shorts.
