This movie IS the epitomy of the 50's science fiction! It even has gyros to make sure the ship stays vertical!!

A most enjoyable movie to watch. The important thing to do is to go back to the 1950s or 60s, in your mind, when this movie was made, to really enjoy it. For you young ones, this may be difficult, but at least try. 🙂

You have to keep in mind that this was released in 1951. People didn't know much about conditions on other planets or space travel. Remember, the first satellite wasn't launched until 1959.

Low budget means: adapting a German V2 for a flight to Mars + get B-17 flight jackets as "space suits" (however, wear fedoras, 'cause Earthlings must introduce themselves to Martians properly). Smoking allowed...lucky that the cabin didn´t explode.
