WATCH LIVE: Hot Car Child Death Murder Trial — SC v. Rita Pangalangan — Day Two

A South Carolina woman faces trial for allegedly murdering her 13-year-old special needs daughter by locking her in a hot car for nearly five hours in August 2019. Rita Pangalangan claims she accidentally locked her daughter, Cristina, in the vehicle with the keys inside when she went to grab a pack of cigarettes inside the home of her boyfriend, Larry King. Authorities said when first responders arrived to administer aid, Cristina, who was wheelchair-bound and “helpless,” was “beyond help” and died. Pangalangan and King’s story allegedly fell apart when investigators seized security footage from the home that showed the couple locking Cristina in the car and leaving her unattended, returning to check on her several times.

We all saw the video, she never started the car. Even if she had, it’s absolutely no excuse to have that child in there for 5hrs and only checking on her twice. Leaving her like that is criminal. There’s no excuse. I hope the jury shows them the same amount of mercy that they showed that sweet baby girl. She deserved better. They deserve jail.

This case is absolutely heart breaking. As a little experiment I got into my car and when I went to go run errands I would not turn on the air or open the windows. By minute 10 I was extremely uncomfortable and by 20 minutes I couldn’t take it any longer. I could not IMAGINE a child sitting in the car alone and scared and hot. I know Rita claimed to love 1:56:04 her and she was your life but that does not change the fact that if it were not for your actions she would still be here.

Those were some of the most ridiculous questions I've ever heard directed to a forensic pathologist. No idea why the state didn't object on the grounds of relevance.

Christina was in that car for 5 hours and 43 minutes. No matter what they try to say or how condescending these defense lawyers are to witnesses, she was put in that car at 11:16 am and left in a hot car with no air conditioning for 5 hours and 43 minutes. She was alone and scared and she could hear her mother outside the car and to see her so called mother come out at 12:30 to see I'm sure, if she was dead yet, and then close the door and go back inside. Who does that to their child? Drugs or no drugs, they deserve to be in jail

I also find it severely abusive how Christina who couldn’t do much of anything on her own was left alone anywhere for long periods of time with no stimulation. I can’t imagine how much suffering being stuck where you’re placed last for long periods of time with absolutely nothing to accompany or entertain you must have caused
