Its pretty well documented the force can be used to greatly enhance ones physical abilitys.

It wasn't the log that gave him his abilities. He was an old man, but when you are an old Jedi you use the force to alter your physical abilities. The pain killing substance helped Yoda not being in pain making it easier finding inner peace required for using the force effectively for him.

I just figured that he was using the force to move his body instead of his muscles during combat. Essentially using Force telekinesis on himself.

I'm pretty sure he uses it cause he needs it, his fighting is such because he fuels his body with the force at those times. He can't be constantly channeling the force

Being 60 or 70 and having arthritis, all the aches and pains especially when it rains or grows cold or hot. So imagine being 300, 600 and 900 years old. So much worse than mere arthritis I imagine.

In the temple he would also some times use the floating chair to move around. So I'd say the cane just helped him to move without the force as in combat Yoda heavily used the force in his older age in order to keep his movement quick and smooth.

Also I thought that he had the cane because he wanted to look weak before kicking someone's ass... 😂
