That area she was holding would indicate that her pelvis had become stuck in a rotational direction. The crane test would confirm whether the pelvis was moving freely and should show a movement up and down of approx 2 inches if not stuck. Majority of lower back pain emanates from the pelvis.

Seems like the McGill big 3 is a fix for a lot of weaknesses from the lower back and mid section. I definitely feel more stable since incorporating them into the warmup. Not just for lower body, but all workouts. Thanks doc!!

Notice that the second time she pulled that 135, her lower back is less “straight”. It’s in a less extended position, allowing her core to actually do work and stabilize the spine. Just because you have a pristine looking deadlift form doesn’t mean you’re engaging all the right muscles.
A lot of elite power lifters figure this out through trial and error.
