I was lucky enough to visit Rome for the first time in my life last week. I am 57 and well travelled and can say without any hesitation St Peters Basilica is the most beautiful building I have ever seen.

St. Peter’s Basilica for me was life changing in the literal sense. Being able to see the Pieta in person, and the Sistine Chapel was other worldly. I’ve been back a couple of times now and it never fails to bring me to tears at some point.

Yes that’s the legacy of our European ancestors. Can we please be proud of it and protect and preserve it, start acting like we recognise the sheer magnitude and splendour of the culture and civilisation that has been built for us. Living in Europe and what is happening here is soul crushing - people turning up here with radically contradictory values and ethos. We are losing our homelands here.

It’s almost a psychedelic experience. I was there last year and it was so moving. You get lost in it. And what’s best is there’s so much history embedded into it. So many stories of fugitive royals being buried there as they fled Protestant ruling etc. it’s something else! I stood in front of the Virgin Mary and it just moves you so much. If the universe is a dialogue of creativity, and we are a creation that embodies creativity, some people really are able to tap into the divine and the soul of the universe itself.

It's not named after a warlord, prince, or king. It's dedicated to a fisherman .

1:17 russel crowe hit the nail on the head. The artwork is so captivating that its deceptive. Joe couldn't see it, because hes not born again like russel crowe is, russel crow sees the devils handlework in the watermark.

I’m 75 and so lucky to have walked up to the “Pietà” by Michelangelo in San Pietro and touched it🙏 before that misguided soul hammered it😔 and then it had to be put behind glass! Rightfully so. We live in such tumultuous times😔

The Pieta by Michelangelo has an optical illusion embedded into it's creation. If you imagine Mary standing up she would tower over us at nine feet! Michelangelo had to do it that way to make it seem proportionate while sitting and carrying the Christ. This is so amazing to me.

Michelangelo was only twenty three when he was commissioned to create this and completed it in a year. I was fortunate enough to see it before it was put behind glass and when the public was still allowed to walk right up close to view it. It’s an absolute marvel and is without rival.

Nothing can prepare you for the sheer scale and beauty of Saint Peter’s in real life.

People tend to throw the word 'genius' around loosely, which diminishes how rare and incredible true genius is. Michaelangelo was one of them. There's only been a handful.

Rome is perhaps my favourite city in the world for that very reason… the awe-inspiring architecture. St. Peter’s is amazing without a doubt… but if anyone wants a couple of things off the beaten track be sure to visit…

1) St Paul Beyond the Walls. A massive cathedral located outside the historic centre of Rome… supposedly where St. Paul was buried. I think it’s the most beautiful cathedral other than St. Peter’s. There are mosaic portraits there for every single pope in history starting from St. Peter. Just amazing.

2) The Borghese Gallery. A small art gallery in the middle of a huge park. It contains some of the most amazing sculptures you will ever see… created by the great sculptor and engineer Bernini. One of the few men who could match (and maybe surpass) Michelangelo’s work with marble.
