A Track Saw is Better #woodworking

What's the difference between a circular saw and a track saw? Circular saw vs a track saw! I love having a track saw in the shop. It’s a tool I didn’t realize how much I would use until I got it. If you cut a lot of sheet goods like plywood or MDF, a track saw is a game changer for a wood shop. Track saws are fast to set up and extremely accurate. My top picks are the Milwaukee or the Festool cordless track saws. If you are on a budget, check out the Kreg track saw or Milescraft makes a circular saw guide that turns your circular saw into a track saw.

I glued a strip of sand paper on the bottom of my straight edge and I need no clamping. It grips down so well that I have to lift one end to reposition it.
Sure I'd love a track saw, but for now, my straight edge workd great with my Makita circular saw.

The Milescraft setup is very nice! Main drawback vs the purpose built tracks is that, as Matt mentioned, you can only do 90 degree cuts.

Makita make guide adapters for all their circular saws. You can even do bevel cuts. Works with the Makita, Festool and Evolution tracks.

I'm on the dewalt platform because that's all that was available when I moved here several yrs ago. What's your thoughts on the dewalt track saw?

You can do 45 degree cuts with the milescraft. You just add a quarter inch to the provided "saw blade spacer". Also, get rid of the clamps and dedicate a saw to the milescraft sled and bolt it down. Also, the milescraft track has 2 grooves in the rail plus cams that can be set and dont need to be adjusted every time you use it like all the others. You can get it to glide nicely with zero play. Also the festool cams come loose every couple of cuts. Get the milescraft with track extenders and put a metabo hpt on it with a diablo blade for 400 dollars.

You can also clamp something to mimick tracksaw with a regular one, without sacrificing much in the accuracy.

You need to do a review on the master force track saw. It’s worked wonders for myself

Hearing someone refer to Kreg as a budget tool blows my mind.

I'm 77, retired, and have all the time that is left to me available to use. I have the poly and aluminum track from a very cheap guide system. Did not like the caddy the saw sat on, so I discarded it and now use the track as a guide. Doesn't bend or bow. I only have to measure 2 points, leaving a setback for the distance from saw foot edge to blade. He may save 30 seconds from how long it takes me. When your 77, 30 seconds is a blink of the eyes and not worth my spending $150 or more to save 30 seconds per cut when I might make 12 cuts with it in a year.

Hey Matt 👋 😁 I'm actually looking for a track saw lol. Its like you know what I'm looking for first with the orbital sander and now this. I'm really digging the Milescraft track saw 99$ good deal
Thanks for the recommendation and thanks for sharing 😁 👍

I just wanted to take a moment to update you on my progress in getting into woodworking. I made my 1st sale, and turned around and put 2/3rds of the proceeds back into the business in the form a set-of-4, 2 large, and 2 small DeWalt wood clamps from Home Depot.

I would like to see the methods of how track saw tracks are clamped to the workpiece.

As far as track saws I have tried several but own the TS75 because it was the saw capable of doing deeper 45° cuts for waterfall edges for countertops, tables and desks. But I generally keep that guy in my shop and I have Ryobi's track saw that I bring with me on site to jobs. Ive got to say its absolutely wonderful especially for its price. I was lucky and got mine on sale for 180$ for the saw, a 55" track, 4ah battery and a charger.. The kreg is a solid budget option as well and the Milwaukee is solid but I would only buy it when its on a super sale and like 399. Otherwise I would strongly recommend the TS 60 for corded or a cordless TS55. I wasnt a fan of dewalts, makitas was solid but overpriced and while I love some of Wen's tools it just isnt the best in comparison to Ryobi for cordless or Kreg for corded.. The only downside with Ryobi is the track is proprietary, but the upside is it does come with a 55" track and to get another 55" is only like 75$, so not too terribly bad.

I refuse to buy a track saw because it should not be 3-4x the cost of a normal circular saw or the same cost as a table saw.
