The moment you said "Even the best directors can drop some stinkers" my mind instantly went to the Ryan George sketch about public toilets. And then you put it in the video. Get out of my head!

Tenet is better than the prestige?!?
Huh?
How dare you!! 😂

Oh you hit a nerve with me saying Prestige. It’s one of my favorite Nolan movies. I thought you would’ve said Tenet for sure.

Editing in a clip of Ryan George must have been super easy, barely an inconvenience!

3:45 James Gunn WTF ??? Are you kidding ??? Better put Kubrick, Hitchcock, Zemeckis, Burton, Polanski, Allen, or Donner, his only good film is guardians of the galaxy, and is not going to be a classic

Three Directors that I wish they had more movies:

Bill Paxton(1 movie, but Frailty is amazing!)

Frank Darabont(3 movies. The Mist is really fun but his other 2 movies are in my top 30 of all times!)

Mel Gibson(I loved Hacksaw Ridge but his other 3 movies are all in my top 50 movies of all times!)

Agree with you about James Cameron. I actually think PIRANHA 2 is a fun little piece of enjoyable schlock and I would happily rewatch it again over AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER, which was lifeless and self-indulgent.

Sean Chandler is the most upbeat movie critic I know, anyone else agree?

Are there good movies from bad directors? Because this is my idea

Good Movies from the Worst Directors

2:01 Actually, tons of his movies have been nominated- Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET, Saving Private Ryan, Munich, War Horse, etc.

But Schindler's List was his only ever win. He did get Best Director for that AND Saving Private Ryan.

From the directors on here, I would pick:

Spielberg - 1941 (it’s actually bad)
Gunn - Guardians of The Galaxy 2 (I do like it tho, a lot)
Fincher - Alien 3 (I don’t like this at all)
James Cameron - Piranha II
Denis Villeneuve - Incendies (I like it but nowhere near as much as his other stuff)
Matt Reeves - Cloverfield (solid but nowhere near Batman or Apes for me)
Martin Scorsese - Hugo (solid I just gotta see thru the rest of Scorsese’s stuff)
Raimi - Multiverse of Madness (I don’t like this movie and it ranks low for me with the MCU)
Nolan - Tenet (the only Nolan film I find boring)

• Spielberg - The BFG
• Gunn (?) - Guardians 2
• Fincher - Alien 3 / Mank
• Cameron - Avatar
• Villeneuve - Dune Part One
• Reeves - Let Me In (haven't seen The Pallbearer)
• Scorsese - Cape Fear (great movie, this is just compared to the rest of his filmmography)
• Raimi - Oz the Great & Powerful
• Nolan - Dunkirk

Unpopular opinion: my least favourite Scorsese picture is The Wolf of Wall Street. I’ve seen it three times and can’t stand it. I haven’t seen all his movies though, it’s just all the others that I have seen are so much better.

For Top Tier directors, I’d go:
James Cameron - Piranha II: The Spawning-This one’s a bit of a cheat because it’s not technically a James Cameron film, but when you learned about the production of this film involving Cameron, it makes an already really bad “B” movie even worse
David Fincher - Alien 3-By no means is Fincher to blame for this cinematic middle finger to James Cameron’s Aliens, but still, it’s a movie built on an entirely faulty foundation that actively steps on my toes
James Gunn - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2-While I still think is a pretty decent movie, I don’t think this movie fully comes together because of its weaker story structure and tonal inconsistencies, in particular, its more mean spirited humor
Christopher Nolan - Following-Because of its incredibly low budget, this movie shows Nolan’s potential as a storyteller, even if the actual movie isn’t the easiest to watch or fully follow along with
Sam Raimi - Oz the Great and Powerful-As a massive Raimi fan, I find it rather unfortunate how devoid of wonder and magic I think this Wizard of Oz film is
Matt Reeves - The Pallbearer-For how talented Reeves has proved himself after this film, his directorial debut didn’t show those talents because it’s a rom com, whereas the rest of his films have darker tones and elements
Martin Scorsese - Boxcar Bertha-Like with pretty much every Scorsese film, there’s a certain amount of artistic merit here, but when the story and characters aren’t engaging, the movie feels like it was filmed and released several years before it actually hit theaters, which isn’t in this one’s favor
Steven Spielberg - 1941-A complete and total misfire that consists of way too much physical comedy for a WWII film, as well as a movie of a tone, story, and quality level that doesn’t make sense in Spielberg’s phenomenal filmography
Quentin Tarantino - Death Proof-Even though it’s still has Tarantino’s flavor of characters and dialogue, I don’t think Tarantino’s strengths overlap with what Grindhouse films serve up, making for the only Tarantino film I wouldn’t go positive on
Denis Villeneuve - Enemy-While there are plenty of well done technical elements to this film, this isn’t a form of storytelling I connect with much, which doesn’t make for a satisfying experience for me

My opinion:
Spielberg- 1941
Cameron- Piranha 2 (haven't fully watched)
Nolan- Tenet
JJ Abrams- Star Trek Into Darkness
Michael Bay- Transformers: The Last Knight

I haven't seen enough of David Fincher, James Gunn, Denis Villeneuve, Matt Reeves, Martin Scorsesse, Quentin Tarantino, and Sam Raimi films to give an opinion on his worst film
